The other day, I picked up a motoro from a store near by. While I was standing in line, a lady said "Wow, thats a big box, whats in there?" I told her it was a stingray. "Oh, wow, saltwater is so much fun." I told her it was freshwater ray and she didn't know there were rays in freshwater, so that sparked a conversation. She then went on to tell me that she used to have a bunch of saltwater tanks and at one point she kept an octopus, but it had escaped and died.

The lady seemed very nice, but I'll be the first to tell you, I'm clueless about saltwater. Are there any octopus you can keep in a home aquarium?

This would be better posted in the marine section fyi. Octopus are a pain in the butt...they need super clean water, escape proof tank, and mental stimulation. Even if you fulfil all the requirements, they live only a year or two max. Entertaining critters though.

I have read that they are fun to keep but like it says above^ they dont live long and theyre supposedly masters at escaping their tanks very highly intelligent animals if I had the money and the sw experience one obviously needs to keep one of these I wouldnt hesitate

I grew up wanting to keep some Cuttlefish or a Blue Ringed Octopus. Later I learned about their short lifespans and the Blue Rings nearly fatal venom. Plus Octos require some very high maintenance. I also read that if for some reason they eject their ink, you have to do a massive water change before the ink kills it. I've only seen them kept by public aquariums and research facilities. But I'm sure some people keep them. I still think it would be cool to have a small Octopus even if its only for 2-3 years.

thanks for the responses! I just didnt' know if it were true or not. So has anyone on here kept an octopus? I'ts monsterfishkeepers, some one has to have kept one at one point
