Instead of de-railing my other thread I figure I'd create a new one to discuss this AWESOME movie. Im at work so I dont really have time to organize my thoughts here so I'm mostly rambling, but I want to hear what everyone else has to say about this film.

Many people pass it off as a "B" movie at best. I and many others view the movie as a great political piece (not politics as in Left Vs Right so lets keep it out of that area), a great Patriotic piece, and a piece that eerily echos current events in Iraq. Side note here...the operation to capture Saddam Hussein was code named "red dawn" and "wolverine 1" and "wolverine 2" were code names for the targets.

I find it interesting that a movie made just before the end of the cold war can still gives us a relevant message and insight to todays current events.

Also, as a large supporter for the Second Amendment this movie is probably the greatest thing out of Hollywood that is pro-gun.

Here is a little from Wiki (lots of great information on the movie there but dont read it if you havnt watched it as it has spoilers)..

"
Director John Milius portrays the private ownership of weapons as a necessary element of anti-Communism. Early in the film, a bumper sticker seen on a truck states a classic gun owner’s creed; “They can have my gun when they pry it from my cold, dead fingers.” The shot moves down to a dead hand holding an empty Colt pistol as well as shots of the same pistol being pried from the dead person's hand by a Soviet paratrooper. As the protagonists flee the initial invasion of Calumet, they stop at a local sporting goods store owned by one of their fathers. He tells them to gather supplies and gives them several rifles and pistols along with boxes of ammunition. (The father and his wife are later executed because of the guns missing from the store’s inventory.) In a later scene, Colonel Bella, the Cuban officer, instructs the KGB to go to the local sporting goods store and obtain the paperwork of local citizens who own firearms. The Cuban officer specifically refers to Form 4473, which is the actual BATF form used to record the sale of a firearm by a dealer to a private citizen in the United States. Later in the film the Wolverines make almost exclusive use of captured Soviet arms from their first engagement onwards, possibly due to limited stocks of ammunition for their own civilian weapons (revolvers, pump-action shotguns, lever-action rifles and bolt-action rifles) or the greater effectiveness of the captured military weapons (such as the AKM, RPK and RPG-7)."

What I have in bold is something very important to me. It is technically ILLEGAL to have a national gun registry that is open to the public and law officials (unless there is a warrant issued by a judge) but our enemies foreign AND domestic do know about this and just like in the movie, if you are trying to control people who are you going after first? The people with the means to fight back and the form 4473 is a great start to get to those people.

Now I'm far from an irrational alarmist that sits under my bed with a tin foil hat, 77 years worth of MREs, and enough fire power to supply a small army, but I do honestly believe that one day, the Second Amendment will prove to be the saving grace of Free America.

Ok sorry for any spelling errors or even sentences that dont make sense but Im rushing and need to get back to work, lets hear it fellas!

Great fictional movie. Amazing the impact the second amendment had on the previous attack on U.S. soil.

My question is, "Why do so many gun owners feel they need to promote the second amendment?"

Seen it numerous times. Like it! The ability of Americans to keep and bear arms was one of the reasons that Japan was afraid to invade the U.S. during WWII !!

I'm really hyped to see this film now,I would go to Walmart to look for it,but I am staying inside and out of the way of the last minute shoppers.

My cable provider has it on its list of free movies,I am about to watch it.

Saw it in the theater, have it on VHS and DVD and actually own one of knock off KLMK Camo uniforms used by the Soviet Paras in the movie.
