HAS ANYONE KEPT A AGGRESSIVE FEMALE TANK

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yeah you right about the ebjd. The jaguar wouldbe a excellent choice. I'm so unsure it's ridiculous. Because I like amph cichlids and was thinking of a all male tank with a Midas , xilo, sagitae, trimac, chancho all males in a growout 125gal eventually will upgrade to 240 gal later let me know what you think would be cooler the female theme or male theme

With those fish I would say male due to the fact there will be no egg laying. Going with the other list of fish you had, i would say female due to the color. I have a female red terror and she is probably the prettiest fish I have owned. So it all depends on what your going to keep.

midas, trimac, red terror, jaguar, red tiger motag (RTM) anything along those lines SHOULD be fine. But there cichlids and you will never know until you try

Besides Festae I have always thought males have way better colors most of the time.. Plus as far as mating, males won't do jack unless a female is present; and like Peanut said, females will still lay and defend, whether there's males or not. You'll always run into male dominance, but you can definitely find a few that work together, and that will have amazing coloration. I think an all male tank would be a way better bet.

Well, you've got to consider that females will still lay eggs and defend their nest even if they aren't fertilized. Can multiply aggression quite a bit if they all decide to lay at the same time.

It can be done, but choose your species wisely. I wouldn't put Geos. with Amphilophus for sure. LoL

I have had this issue before with females of aggressive species that still get very testy due to laying the eggs, so I'd still watch for this when considering some of the large species considered in this thread
