this fish has always been on my list and was just wondering if anyone with experience with this fish could chime in. How aggressive are these fish actually? can you keep bottom dwellers with them? i know it says 14 inches max size but does it get bigger a little smaller? would it be good with a bichir? any info would be great and pictures of course

They are not as bad as you would think when it comes to aggression. I'd compare them to flowerhorns. I've had dithers and bottom dwellers with a black nasty. Bichirs are good, plecos as well.

My male stopped at 12 inches in a 90 gallon. So I guess the 10-14 inch range is what you should expect if you plan on getting one.

ALSO, the thing with Black Nasty's. Give them LOTS of air, they need air to avoid bloat from my experience.

okay thanks alot. i'm getting another 90 maybe a 125 and was looking at just a single show male. The thing is i really dont want to give up my bichir so if they can coexist that would be awsome.

Hey Neighbour! I love my Odo!! You will too!
The pros on here helped me alot,so I will tell you what I learned and did.

I grew out solo, but others have raised in group. IMO Solo is safer, dont know much about Bichir but as long as it dosnt stress or bother the Haiti, should be fine.

Aerorate water well, heat at 82 to 88. Feed good pellet, I choose NLS but food has no effect on bloat. STRESS does!

What worked for me is dont mess with him or the tank. Low traffic area, lots of hiding spots, I did small water changes about 20 percent once to twice a week, this depends on tank size obviously. And dont move him to another tank! This is all a very safe way to grow out one. Im sure people have success not being as fussy but I wanted 100 percent certainty.

They eat like pigs and are very owner responsive. They have no color but what I love about there look is there body profile! Its very unique and amazing looking!

great! and thats a beautful hait ya got there! male i'm guessing? how can you tell the difference between a male and female besides venting? and would u not suggest syphoning the gravel as water changes due to stressing them? and i love their profile, they look like theyre ancient.

also when do they get past their bloat stage or do they ever get passed it? and how often do you feed him?

Gravel clean is fine, I heard after 4 to 5 inch the bloat risk lowers greatly. I kept mine hungry feeding once a day and skiping days here and there. Now he gets treated like any other fish I have.
But my buddy grew out his two haits on brine shrimp and massivore, over feeding till there bellies would be bulging and absolutly no bloat! Not to say that thats good to do but it was a good test showing Bloat is not caused by diet.

I got mine from Gage, grew out four, ended up with a male and female.
females have pure white tails

Perfect thanks for the info! Wouldn't shipping them be a huge risk? Since that will most likely be my only option
