Do you still have the receipt and is the LFS still in business? Those two things might be able to save you a ton of trouble should you be discovered. If you have the receipt still, you may be able to turn them over without penalty provided that you explain that you bought them without the knowledge of their illegality; you'd basically become an informant for a illegal fish smuggling/selling bust at that point.

If anything, get them to a zoo, if possible. I know of at least one zoo that has Asian arowanas as well as snakeheads and walking catfish, so I imagine that there are others out there that can take them.

How does this violate any rules? I don't understand. I am going to eat dinner and will be right back to check this thread. Hopefully I will get some advise. Thanks to all who are helping

Because this forum doesn't support/allow talk of owning illegal fish(even though you are trying to sell them).

You could contact the Downtown Aquarium in Denver Colorado, they already have several asian aro there and would/could probably house yours. Though I don't think you could get these fish moved without contacting the feds. Unless with this thread here someone could contact you and take them of your hands. :naughty:

Actualy wanttokeeptrout. Im from ontario canada and can tell you for a fact snakeheads are illegal in canada. Only province you can legally buy them is BC, and there sold in grocery stores as food not pets. Trust me, I live here and visit bc annualy.
pretty sure snakeheads are legal here in Alberta. They are sold at alot of local fish stores.

All snakehads are illegal in canada as our lakes and river systems are a perfect habitat for them. I have read cases In the newspaper of people catching theem in rivers in montreal and quebec. An asian store in toronto was caught two years ago hiding/storing snakeheads in their stockroom. Canada takes our wildlife laws very seriously.

to the OP there have been numerous people on here that have been busted by the feds for having illegal fish and trying to sell them they are on mfk and they can find you so dont think they wont as for your situation is say your in a tight spot since noone is going to want to get an illegal fish from you especially since you just publicized it and 2 you dont want to ship so your stuck between a rock and a hard place good luck bud this goes to show do research and know your states laws and regulations so you dont end up like this guy

Let me assuage your assumptions about the gov't watching this site. We've already had 3 arrests resulting from what people post on this forum. We know we have at least 3 F&G officials as active members on this site. We also have public aquaria employees and gov't-contracted hatchery personnel on this site that relay questionable activities to agents. And, this site has a standing policy of assisting in all investigations, including providing all registration information to official investigators. With all that going on, feel free to post whatever you'd like. If they're interested, you'll get a knock on the door that won't go away.

Yes, you do see many posts on aros, snakeheads, and other species. However, take a closeer look and you'll find that these posts are from our other-than-US membership. MFK is a global site with members from dozens of countries.

This site cannot monitor what goes on behind closed doors. We're not going to try. Usually, people that post about questionably-legal species do so in the third person. We're here to help in all species care. However, we cannot condone nor do we permit blatant postings of illegal activities.

Yes alberta might be ok too now that youmention it. Just check online for your local wildlife laws.

Im pretty sure its just ontario that has a ban in canada. I heard Sask was thinking about it. Snakeheads are so commonin alberta at stores and inside homes. Even northern giants aree for sale at Big als
