I recently started to put some plants in my pond. Grandma bought a lily pad thing for it, then we went to the local river and grabed some Papyrus, Cattail and a couple other odd pieces. Question is, whats the best lilys for turtles, and Id love to keep the pond clean so whats a normal pond need to keep the green away? We do have a UV filter but nothing exceeds like excess.

THANKS!

I use frogbit and it has eradicated all the green water to point I no longer use UV .

Its like a floating lily pad but tiny as the leaves average 2 inches . Just throw it in pond and it will begin to multiply .
They send out roots into the water that "eat" the green water as they grow fast if enough sun without enough sun they grow but not as effective.

Floating fern is good to its like duckweed but prettier .

However I dont know if turtles would eat them.

 it doesn't eat the green water, it consumes the nutrients in the water that the green water (algae) need to survive and it dies off.

How do you have the cattails, papyrus and lilies planted (in soil?)?

Dr Joe

.

yes i have them in pots filled with soil, then rocks on top to keep the soil in an the plants (an turtles) down.

There are like no more pants in there looks like the Turtles ate all the leaves off the pants.

no it was the apple snails that ate all the middles out. the turtles eat the flowering bulbs

to kil the snails get some shellcrackers.

haha i paid 5 bucks for them turds, cant crack em yet. Ive gotta get my viewing pleasure out of them, then on the barbie they go haha

Where does the green water go ? kidding I know what you mean I myself found as far as cattails went it made no difference be it soil with gravel ontop of just planted in soil .

You find this to be the case ?

The dwarf papyrus I think same thing makes no difference ?
