Not trying to be a wise guy...but what are you talking about? :)

Perhaps someone should start a new thread as i don't want to de-rail this thread.

Just to recap: P. synspilus is now classed as a Junior Synonym of P. melanurus, so therefore synspila is no longer a valid species, they are both the same sp.

Please read:

Paraneetroplus synspilus is a Junior Synonym of Paraneetroplus melanurus (Teleostei: Cichlidae)
CALEB D. MCMAHAN, CHRISTOPHER M. MURRAY, AARON D. GEHEBER, CHRISTOPHER D. BOECKMAN & KYLE R. PILLER (USA)

I'm suprised no one has picked up the latest development seeing how popular this particular cichlid is on the forum.:)

Regards,

Lee Nuttall.

I think this thread should be changed to 'Have a melanurus', since synspila is no more!

Nice melanurus everyone.;)

ok now I'm confused, is it synspilum or melanuru? I find pictures of fish that look like mine when I google either of those

Googling pictures is a useless tool imo as allsorts of photos can come up. :) They are now classed as the same fish. Melanurus was described first (Günther, 1860), so therefore melanurus will take preference over synspilus.

You can now say that you have gained a new species over night. ;)

I think if we need to dabate further, perhaps we should start a new thread as not to spoil this one.
