hm, you're right fishguts.. i guess i should of read more closely. i would say male because of the size. some males show female colors sometimes. perhaps he's just showing off for the oscar or because he wants more attention than the o. how big was it when you got it a year ago?

It's a male. I have a female and a male, and your fish looks just like my male.
 
spangles, and no blue or black on dorsal (male) maybe another pic please.
not too much green on cheeks but probably pic. Nice festae regardless especially at 11", hope my 4" gets that big that fast.

My first thought was female, only because I have never seen a male display the bars and coloration of that fish. I could be wrong though.

My male displays intense black bars whenever I do water changes.
 
Does he also get the orange color to him?
 
im going to have to say male. not 100% but that is my guess. did you do anything different lately to the tank or him/her?
