Have internet forums made people lazy?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Perfect example. Laugh out loud

No, this is more of what we are talking about. Here is a thread started by Yourself:
http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?499663-Pool-filter

I recently tried this thread on AC. Apparently there are no ACers that want to think outside of the box. I aquired a small pool filter and it's been sitting around in my garden shed. Lately I have been interested in Vortex diatom filters. I want to use the pool filter as a diatom and as a maintenance routine to polish the water column. I wonder if anyone on MFK has used a pool filter in their aquarium.

Instead of going to the appropriate forum and doing a little research, And drawing a conclusion from there. You start a thread about it. No wonder it only got 3 responses! Pay close attention the last one. LOL!

I believe the forums are a reflection of society, too many people being coddled their whole life and can't do anything without being micromanaged. Some threads could be easily researched such as cycling but if you have no knowledge of the subject it becomes slightly more difficult since you aren't really sure what you are looking for. On the other hand threads such as what order should I place the media in my fx5 are the epitome of laziness, it is clearly spelled out in the manual and the manual is available online if you dont have one.

As a newbie myself, I generally post a thread when I don't know where to begin searching online. For example, last night there was a trench in the sand. I was worried about a huge worm or some other hitchhiker. Could I have searched "Trench in salt tank" on google and gotten the answer after filtering though a ton of random stuff that had nothing to do with and possibly be misleading, yes, absolutely. It is easier for sure, but also more efficient I think, to ask someone with personal experience of the matter, "hey what is this?" Are the answers on the forum always right? No. I've learned that from googling after I get the answer. I guess, personally, I treat my threads as a narrowing of the research. Get a taste for what I'm after and then go find it. Not saying I've never started a stupid thread before, Hello! Newbie! lol. But it helps to narrow the search field for sure.

And, now being one step above complete Newblet, I believe Eddie referred to it as a "beginner helper", I do like to share the knowledge I have been given with others. And sure, I'm going to mess up now and then, but that, again, refines my knowledge and understanding of the information being passed along. At the same time, I am so tired of seeing "saltwater newbie here - what do I do?" threads. Dude, the one right underneath yours is the same thing...... Read a little, THEN start the "what am I doing" thread. ....Does that make me a hypocrite?

This, most of these basic questions have already been answered and can be found by using the search bar. If after spending 5 minutes of looking you don't have your answer then make a post but when the previous post is the exact same question and was answered, and yet you still start a new thread that is pure lazyness.

I'm just here for the drama... get a room you two...

but seriously, people already said what it is - a microcosm of society. There will always be people who want to learn why, and people who just want it done and don't care why.

I don't think forums cause that, they make it easier to see, because instead of just seeing lazy friends and family, you get to see lazy people from all across the globe!

Problem with getting information from the internet is that a lot of it is wrong. Anyone can post anything they want. Some people believe everything they read on the net.
