The orifginal question is subject to debate...All fish keepers have, at the least, entertained that thought ( even if only between themselves )...

So please let us not transform this thread into a contest of "polite remarks", please. Who does not want to reply, simply has to ignore the thread.

When I say 86ed I mean immediately got rid of it out of frustration . I had to do it for the first time today. You see Ive been raising this little Leporinis for a year. When I bought it he was 2'' long and it was sorta mellow. Today it WAS a healthy 6'' little killer. In the past few months it has killed and consumed 10+ corys, 8 swordtail platys, and this week alone 18 black neons (strange for a vegetarian fish). But today it crossed the line and tore into 2 of my 6 little tapajos orangehead geos. 1 of them (my dominant male) died and the other is gonna lose sight in 1 of his eyes. I was so pissed off that I immediately netted the culprit and flushed it down the toilet. I had no other tank available to put it in and had to be at work in an hour so I just did it to save my prized geos from furthur damage. Have any of you all ever taken similar measures with a fish?? Just curious as if you have it wont make me feel so bad....... I do feel horrible about it, as it was a very handsome fish.....
I am not going to flame you.Others will do that and already have.
I will simply say this....Hopefully you will think before anything like this repeats itself in the future. Not just for the loss of the fish you disposed off down the toilet but also for the other injured tank mates and casualties.Always have spare tanks or at least a spare tank for reasons such as this. Resist the urge to fill up every available bit of tank space you have. You can try and choose correct tank mates but no one can guarantee success so extra tanks even if small will come in handy at times. Always keep spare replacement heaters, power heads and filters. Foam filters attached to power heads or air driven in most tanks so you automatically have a seeded filter for the spare/hospital tank. Prevention is always better then the cure;)

p.s.My reply is advice for the well being of the other tank mates and not aimed at being judgemental.

RULE #! OF FISHKEEPING: DO NOT release fish into the wild.
Bact to the Leporinus. That's not right because now how does the fish die? He either dies of amonnia poisoning from human waste or he ends up in a sewage plant filter. And many places will tell you that larger Leporinus are not to be kept with smaller than their mouth sized tankmates.
I'm gonna try not to flame you but PLEASE don't do it again. LFS will take it because it's a fish that will bring in money. I'm sure you could find someone on HERE that would take it. If none of these worked, get a bigger tank and put the Leporinus in there!

the main issue with the leporinus issue is that there shouldn't have been frustration with it if it were in a tank with something resembling proper tankmates.
