Have you ever gotten a free tank? Share your story!

I know a lot of members have gotten lucky and scored free tanks/equipment just by being in the right place at the right time!

Today, I came home for lunch and my brother-in-law says:

"Hey dude, the maintenance guy from the apartment complex said that there's a free tank in one of the apartments"

Before he could finish what he was saying I ran to the front office to inquire.

The manager said it was 'big' so I figured in regular people terms, the tank was probably 20 or 30g's. She also mentioned that there were two fish in the tank.

Then she says I need someone to help me carry it!

We go to the empty apartment (empty except for the aquarium) and I see the aquarium which was bigger than I thought (I guesstimated four feet long), and a nice surprise was that there was a Fluval 404 still plugged in, in the filter!

I look inside and there's a 12-14" common plec, and a 6-7" gibby!

The manager said that the fish tank has been sitting in the empty apartment for over a month! No food for the poor fish.

So I rushed them home and put them in my 180g and dumped in food which they practically attacked right away.

I measure the tank after moving it: 48"X14.5"X17" = 50 gallon tank FREE!!!

Woot!

it's a TruVu acrilic tank, with a black rear panel, and a black acrilic canopy

back in the day when i was like 10 this kid on my street traded me a 55 gallon tank i think for a gumball and some baseballs

one of my dads friend gave my dad an old school 100 gallon with a wet dry.. i turned it into a freshwater tank.. ot broke ... and now i have a new 125

Personally I've never got a free tank but I've hooked up a few people with their first tank free. I guess they should be posting here instead of me. lol

actually just today I helped a new neighbor unload a uhaul and in the end he gave me a free 75g tank.

nothing special...actually honestly I don't like it and am going to be trying to sell it but it was free so....

first of all It is an acrylic and I'm not all about acrylic (its got a few good scratches in it.)

second it's got a permanent blue background and I don't dig blue backgrounds much less permanent ones.

last of all it is 12 tall,24" wide and 5' long,but it does have a stand and canopy....
