In The Jungle
I have a 150 gallon wide tank (6ft x 2ft x 2 ft).
Stock: Ornate, endli, endli cong., weeksii albino poly (all a foot or less)
Orbigny stingray (10" across)
Marbled achara Cat 23"

I USE to have about 35 fish in here when everyone was smaller and have only kept my favorites and a Ray which i got a few months back....so spare me the overstocked BS guys.... I need advice

ISSUE: Ray needs wood in water for hardness/softness (forget which) Had many smaller pieces but the catfish was thrashing them and the tank looked like crap. SO I thought buying one big piece would solve the issue and open floor space for the ray when i first got it...

NEW Issue: The catfish has been pushing around this huge piece when it gets scared or feeds etc. Im afraid it will break the glassView attachment 795287

ANY suggestions to solve this need for wood for the ray and prevent the catfish from breaking my tank????

I though maybe gluing it to the base but Id have to empty the tank out and stress everyone out for 48 hours till the glue dries... HELP!!! i want to just start over sometimes

Id get rid of the cat, but that's me...

Yeah ive been trying tho he looks amazing when the tank is barebottom with just the black sand. BUT I cant find anyone interested in such a beast.... :( If i Had it my way Id get a second ray and call it a day if I rehome cat

Just cut the wood up into smaller pieces so he can't break the tank with them.

And maple leaves will tan your water better than wood anyway. Just get them in the fall when they've browned naturally and they're ready to store and use.

Easy Solution if you want to keep the driftwood for the purpose of water softness then easy solution....ding ding .... Sump...place the driftwood in the sump. The cat will benefit more from the driftwood being in the tank than the stingray infact the stingray can hurt itself if the driftwood is in the tank there is a possibility of it scratching itself so my 2cents is no driftwood in your tank and if you'd like to soften your water going the natural route then I'd say go with the sump idea. other then that there are water softeners out there and you don't need the driftwood at all. GL.

I stated that I use to have many smaller pieces in the past. Issue is that the cat pushes them around easier and scratches itself ALOT easier aswell with multiple pieces scattered around the tank so cutting up a 100$ driftwood isnt on the to do list when I just removed 8or so smaller pieces. Also I dont use the wood to tan my water, actually hate that it does this. I use the driftwood for water softness for my stingray.
