Having an issue which is making me lose interest in my tank :(

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Had it wedged into a corner at one point but when the cat goes on his late night swims or gets scared he managed to rip it off the ground, Strong fish. Kinda beasty. I see him push "haduken" waves around in there lol
Just wedge the wood so it can't be pushed.

Easy Solution if you want to keep the driftwood for the purpose of water softness then easy solution....ding ding .... Sump...place the driftwood in the sump. The cat will benefit more from the driftwood being in the tank than the stingray infact the stingray can hurt itself if the driftwood is in the tank there is a possibility of it scratching itself so my 2cents is no driftwood in your tank and if you'd like to soften your water going the natural route then I'd say go with the sump idea. other then that there are water softeners out there and you don't need the driftwood at all. GL.

I considered the sump idea which woulda solved the issue but I use to have a sump on a 90gallon I temporarily housed some polypterus in at one point but the random leaking and overflow threat etc just didnt work out. It was a second hand setup but I'm sure any setup given enough time and fidgeting starts to crapout and leak from my experience looking at sump setups.

BUT THE RAY DOESENT NEED WOOD, REALLY? F'n genius. Thank you. Bye bye wood. Maybe ill TRYYY to put it into my Axolotl tank. Might have to cut it down to get it into the 30breeder. I will look into water softeners tomorrow and will remove the wood aswell (and all the crushed coral to counteract the ph drop.... more room for carbon in the eheims i guess.)

ONa side note tonight i found out that my achara cat, orbigny stingray and royal pleco can all be found in the Orinoco body of water in the amazon. SO on that note, I can stop looking to rehome my achara cat for a bit and give everyone more space. Also I can add the smaller pieces I use to have (or pieces i cut from this large on to fit in my 30breeder) and feed it to the royal pleco. SWEET.

So the wood is back in... my weeksi was buggin out even the next day and I had my 9" albino somehow jump out last time I removed the wood so can't have that again....

Used old suction cups from some heaters to hold the thin lengths of wood that touch the bottom. Days two so far hasn't moved.

Man u can start by filling the water up to the top, its Atleast 25-35% lower then the rim, that usually indicates the water hasn't been changed of refilled in some time, I'm not at all slamming you for what you choose to do but with that stock bi weekly wc are needed and by the looks of that evaporation id say its been 2 weeks minimum. Stress from bad water can do many weird things to fish not to mention much less water and space for the ray to swim in (basically shrinking ur footprint), imo start by maintaining it, that will help so much.

Wood is not going to break a tank, if you think it will get a bigger tank or like the others advised get rid of the cat. I commend your willingness to learn and listen so please don't take offense..

::sigh:: WRONG buddy. The water has been at that level since I first set it up BECAUSE the aro likes to jump, polys like to jump out (and I sometimes remove my covers on very hot days) and the marbled cat makes hefty waves and I don't want him to spill water. For the record I HATE the "not topped-off" look but I have to cope with my fishes habits. Aros jump, polys do too and marbled pims are skittish.

I'm usually not a D-bag but your assuming the WORST and I'm super "anal" about my water quality and u pressed a button. Why not ask me why my water level is low before u go off on a tangent and do math for what u believe is neglect. I do water changes a MINIMUM of once a week and usually every 4 to 5 days if I feed more often. I change ATLEAST 25% and sometimes more if overfeeding or spaced the WC out more than usual.

Did u even bother to read the issue here? My water is prestine as I check weekly with master test kit and am over filtering and probably doing excessive water changing. THE ISSUE IS THE CAT PUSHING THE DRIFTWOOD. Marbled achara cats are skittish you can ask anyone with one or look is up.

Please ask before u assume :(:banghead:

A 1x per week 25% wc is nothing, that's 100% once a month, and with that stock Atleast double if not triple. I'm just saying the poor ray needs swimming space and that really takes it away from him, and I cannot believe you would have no lid with these fish even if of does get hot, u can DIY one urself, I use a metal wire shelf on both sides so they cant get out but its still opened for airflow. Man I'm just trying to help, a lot of people around here can tell u that, I want the best for your fish and when I see a pic like that I kinda cringe.....I'm not criticizing u, you could be the best fk ever for all I know, I'm just giving u advice from what I've seen and read here.....

You seem like a cool dude so ill leave it at that. 90% of the time u see tanks half full it was lazyness that's all. I'm glad u know ur max bio load and do wc according to your n03 levels that is however assuming you have 0ppm ammonia and nitrite.

My buddy just got a young achara cat. I'm sure he is going to love it more and more when it grows. Beautiful specimen.

Speaking of the DW. I have a couple heavy flat slate with a hole pre-drilled in the center. I was thinking if that was fastened/screwed on to your driftwood, then the piece would not be going anywhere. Nonetheless, good luck on your next step.

I have covers yet stated that I remove them to vent on hot days. And yes I too want to fill my tank up all the way. Ammonia and nitrite are never an issue only nitrates when I get lazy. And I stated I do a MINIMUN 25% every few days. Somehow u manage to make ur calculations on the worst possible figures 25% once a week... I apreciate ur concern but Its getting handled. Looks like when its all said and done, the cat it the issues here.... all my sand is in eheims basically and he eats faster then the other tankmates. As sooooooon as I decide what I'm going to do with it ill fill my tank finally
