Having an issue which is making me lose interest in my tank :(

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The issue is more than just the catfish. There are a lot of things about your tank that you are clearly displeased with. I can also imagine that it's much more difficult to maintain water quality when you have a tank thats only 2/3rds full.

First starters ditch the wood, you don't like the tannins and if its scratching up your fish you don't want it in there. Look into buying an ro system. Used ones can go cheap.

Your room is getting so hot that you have to take the cover off the tank? My room gets about 82 and I pull the tops off of mine if the tank gets above 83. Look into building a hood that'll vent and use a solid material around the edges to keep water from splashing out and keep the fish from jumping.

Stating the obvious but the catfish is gonna need a new home for sure.

Focus on what you can do to make the tank enjoyable again. I can't imagine it being much fun maintaining that tank with its current setup.

A 1x per week 25% wc is nothing, that's 100% once a month, and with that stock Atleast double if not triple. I'm just saying the poor ray needs swimming space and that really takes it away from him, and I cannot believe you would have no lid with these fish even if of does get hot, u can DIY one urself, I use a metal wire shelf on both sides so they cant get out but its still opened for airflow. Man I'm just trying to help, a lot of people around here can tell u that, I want the best for your fish and when I see a pic like that I kinda cringe.....I'm not criticizing u, you could be the best fk ever for all I know, I'm just giving u advice from what I've seen and read here.....

You seem like a cool dude so ill leave it at that. 90% of the time u see tanks half full it was lazyness that's all. I'm glad u know ur max bio load and do wc according to your n03 levels that is however assuming you have 0ppm ammonia and nitrite.

I kinda took it the way this guy did when I read everything. And I have to agree with him.

Maintenance is not an issue despite what you ***s think. In the process of rehoming the cat. As soon as he's out, I can have my wood centerpiece and keep my polys and ray and FINALLY fill it all the way. When the tank reaches 82 I uncover it just incase (lost a 24" aro to the heat last summer)

Once the cat it out I can refill the sand, center the wood piece and fill the tank all the way. And then ill be happy again....

I'm confused as to what I could've done to be referred to as such? Maintenance clearly *is* an issue because I can imagine with that huge catfish in there you require more water changes, no? Jesus Christ, don't bother posting threads if you don't want to hear some input... you clearly aren't listening to anything I've said.. 0.0

I test my water and have developed a cycle to keep everything in line. Its takes about 8 days for my nitrates to start showing a negative change.

I have not once complained about maintenance in this thread. The issue was with driftwood and the cat. Its great that everyone cares but I don't mind my routine. As for the input, well received and I thank everyone. For the record didn't intentionally adress anyone as a homosexual it was a TYPO.

You guys trailed off from the help I asked for with the wood (except those that actually gave suggestion instead of making this some kind of water quality thread. The cat is mine and I have upgraded it from a 40 to a 90 then a 125 and now this 150, till I find it the next step. its my responsibility and if you'd read my thread history you'd see I've been looking to find it a larger home, I live in an apt and am not comfortable with a larger setup. Its a 24" achara ina 6x2x2 with 4 eheims and regular tests and changes I know what's going on people....

and it was a TYPOOOOOOOOOO. Jebus.

Glad its figured out, sorry for offering advice that you took negatively, but u most realize that I took time out of my day to help you and you call me names? Well hopefully you learned and next time just disregard advice u don't like.

Sorry for offending you

Update, sold the silver aro, measured the achara more accurately while I removed everyone to reposition the tank and somehow its only 20inches.

Somehow I measured 24" last time. Going to hold onto it until I get it a good home, patience.

Put the wood off to a corner and everyone is swimmin happpy. Water change later today and ill be filling the tank up an inch below the top for more space for the ray as suggested.

I never understood only doing 25 percent wcs. Why not just take a little more time and do 50's?

I have been told in the past on MFK that 50 was too much at a time and could/would stress fish. If I'm wrong great. Id rather do 50s. I change about a 1/3rd of the water usually tho. Kinda just measure by eye n calculate the conditioner amount for a 1/3 change.
