Having others take care of your fish.

If you have to premeasured portions is the way to go.And hide the rest of the food. But even at 2-3 weeks youre better off not feeding adult fish than trusing a non fishkeeper.

...and also remember to change the water, to make sure its clean and im sure they filter wont clogged if you clean everything a day before your out of town
That reminds me of a long weekend that I went out of town. In the rush of getting ready for the weekend, I had overflowed a tank during its water change. Water got in the power strip. I dryed it off and all was ok. So I thought. After I had left, it tripped its breaker and the tank was without power for almost four days. Nearly everything was dead, and to make matters worse, I had recently got several prized fish from a friend. He had them for several years and was happy that they didn't have to go to a total stranger who would likely kill them...

...Yeah, that was a hard one to explain to him.

well ill have my story once i go to israel this summer and my sister takes care of my tanks for two weeks

I'm in Puerto Rico for 10 weeks on an internship. I only have my 120 running and I made the girls living at my place during the summer come over before I left so I could show and teach them everything. One week down and they are doing a good job. My fahaka who has basically been sick on and off since I got him (that's another story) took a turn for the worse about five days after I left. I'm stressed and I want to be there to see him for myself but they are contacting me multiple times a day to let me know how he is doing and I've been instructing them via phone on how to help him i.e. meds and water changes. .............I am so going to owe them when I get back. They are good friends.

I actually ended up losing my reef last year when I went on vacation and left my mom in charge of the tank. She paid wonderful attention to what I taught her and even took notes. Unfortunately, my younger brother had an extreme fascination with my bubble tip anemone. He ended up trying to feed it by stuffing silversides down inside the anemone until it died and wiped out the tank overnight.

yah......

Left my fish in the care of a "friend" who also kept fish. I put the food in two 7 day pill containers so she would just have to open a compartment and dump it it. She decided that I was underfeeding my fish and put 5 days worth in each day. No wonder her fish don't last very long. My molly tank was full of ick. She had noticed and told me when I got home but did nothing. She saw that the temp was down but did not bother to check the plug for the heater which was hanging in plain site. So even a fellow fish keeper can be an idiot.

Only trust my hubby or his best friend who started our fish keeping if neither are available il chuck in some feeders

the only person i trust with my tank is my mom since she has a 60 gallon of her own. otherwise i left my tank with my stepdad once, came back, and almost all my fish were close to death. thankfully i saved them all. just abit angry at my stepdad!

this thread brings back memories. 5 years ago, my family and I went to florida for vacation. we had a roommate who was living with us at the time. I asked him to feed the goldfishes($20-$40 ones) and care for my parakeets. when i got back, i found that the parakeets were dead and the goldfish were barely alive lying on the bottom of the tank with filter clogged water dirty. wat pisses me off though is how the parakeet food was not even opened and the roommate claimming that i only told him to WATCH them for me not FEEDING them. :screwy::screwy: i suppose its partially my fault for leaving my pets with an idiot
