Having Trouble Deciding...

What's the current stock in your tank
More that I'd like to admit. Mixed Polypterus, Angelfish, Firemouths, Viejas, a BP, a couple Balas, the peaceful Mota, Severum, a few other small mixed cichlids (nothing large aggressive or large enough to be worth noting), and 3 cats. I have a 75g sump, and a nitrate filter to make up for it. A protein skimmer (yes they can be used on fw in the right conditions) and nitrate reactor are soon to come.

If it were up to me, I'd go with the true parrot cichlid. Very colorful, personable fish looks like a oscar and chocolate but better.

I'm looking for fish to make the order worth the shipping. Would Hypsophrys nicaraguensis work? My stock is just mixed cichlids ranging from Firemouths to an 8" BP.

Cincelichthys bocourti is another species I'm considering.
How are these on aggression? None of my current stock will bully new fish, I'm just worried about getting one that's too aggressive and it kills my fish.

I wouldn't put a coatzacoalcos in with the fish you have now. The Psittacus is better suited for soft water. The bioload is getting high for more fish but a nitrate reactor can bring nitrates down very low.

Nicaraguensis and bocourti are hard water fish. I'm not sure how soft your water is.

Is the Hoplarchus less aggressive, or are they about the same?

Significantly less aggressive than any Vieja I've kept, in my experience. I had mine with a chocolate, angels, polleni. The Hoplarchus chased but never actually hurt any of other fish.

Would I run into any issues if I bought two? I don't want to pay $40 shipping on $18 worth of fish, but I can't find anything else I want that would work with my stock or budget.

That's a really hard question to answer man lol If you got a male and a female and they paired off that could be a very real problem. Hoplarchus get really big too-bigger than your Mota, their could be a problematic change in hierarchy. I believe part of the reason you've had so much success with your Mota is because it's easily the biggest fish in your tank-or am I off?

I also wouldn't just buy fish to justify shipping costs when it could lead to problems down the line-just something to think about.
