Cincinnati - The 513
In a few hours I'm going to the local fish store to trade in some guppies for store credit. I am getting a 55 or a 75 on sunday, and I was wondering, while I'm at the LFS, should I pick up a convict and maybe a firemouth to put in my 20g to grow out until the 55/75 is cycled? I normally would, but the only problem is that I am moving my 20g up to my 3rd floor, and I was wondering, If I empty all of the water and move it, (But using the same filter, gravel, plants, etc)... will I have to cycle again?

It you just mean drain it, move it, and fill it right back up, you will still be cycled. As a precaution, just put the filter media in a bucket of water to keep it wet and you'll be fine.

You can if you want, but you can also just refill with new dechlorinated water. Just try to make it about the same temp. as what the filter media is sitting in. A really drastic temp. change might shock the bacteria and kill some of them off.

(above) Of course! Use tank water, even tap water that is dechlorinated is still bad. If ANY chlorine/chloramines touch the beneficial bacteria, you will have to start cycling again.

If i were you i would personally buy the 75g, it is much more versatile especially if you want to get a large single species fish. I would use the filter media and gravel from the old tank to help speed cycle the bigger tank.

Tip: get a net, scoop some gravel out of the smaller tank and hang it on the sides of the filter to let the water pass through, this helped my nitrite drop from 2.0 to 0.0 in 3 days.

i dont dink u want convicts haha.. i regret getting convicts haha.. they are very agressive.. firemouth are okay hehe =) IMO

Definitely go with the 75/90. The only reason I got a 75 instead of a 90 was that I was on a budget of money I got for my birthday (several ago before I had a job and real money of my own) and it was an extra $100 for that 4" of height/15 gallons. The 18 width makes it so much more versatile in stocking and aquascaping.

I really don't have room for a 75, :( but a 55 is better then nothing...
