Healing open wounds

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I am like a broken record with floating plants but if you can go get some (a good portion or two) and throw them in the QT tank it will help process some of the ammonia and help the tank be more stable.

Even if there are no floating plants available you could get some water Sprite and toss it in, not even in the substrate.

I hope he gets better soon!

This is the qt with the eleated ammonia? If so make ur water changes bigger, 50%. Adding plants if u decide to.....the water has to be pristine!

Thank you. I will go get some right now.

Ammonia is not good for a healthy fish and yours is recovering. Filters cycled ?
Not sure if the filter is cycled...I just have a sponge filter with an airstone in it....should I go by a different filter?

yes. I've never had ammonia that high before. Actually I'm not used to having ammonia in general....Will do the 50% WC. There's stuff floating around in the tank, trying to get it out...but I think its possibly because the sponge filter is just an airstone? Should I get a regular filter for the tank? I think his wound has actually gotten worse over the past few days. :/

1) wound still looks bad. Finally got a clear picture of it. It might have gotten worse since last picture(or I didn't get 100% of wound in pic).

(last pic is with the flash on)

2) Today I did a 60% water change. He's a lot more active now, which is a good thing. :) Most active he's been in 1.5 weeks.....Wondering if I should go to 50% WC a day?

3)Where do I buy topical betadine swabs? I'm not even sure what to look for?

4) should I do another round of triple sulfa?

Wait for kno4te about the meds.

But dont be scared to do larger wcs especially since your getting ammonia..i go down to 90% or to where the fish has just enough water to stay submerged...fin level

I think the water has to be get better. The water has to be pristine. You need to test twice a day if need be. But large water changes are in order. Ammonia -0, nitrite-0, and nitrate <20. That's the goal when u check the water.

The heater has to be guarded.

Abx will kill the bacteria and ur tank is relying on water changes to keep the water pristine.

Get some iodine and get a qtip. Soak the qtip and place the qtip to the area.

Add salt to the tank.
