heater guards--figured I'd ask here

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i say this every time this comes up they are soooooooo cheap to buy why would you want to make a gheto heater gaurd

they come in black and you add or remove bits to fit the size of your heater they have a suckers on them and cost $5 each fluval make one but they will fit on any normal tank heater up to 500w

the tronic one posted will also fit any heater just buy the one for a 300w or it maybe to small if its to big you can take bits off

that is the same as the troni and fluval one and even cheaper than $5

i just use black pvc. i like DIYing my fish stuff, it gives me a sense of accomplishment vs just buying something.
plus i can make it fit in different sized tanks based on their heights or widths.

i really like the egg crate one, just spray paint it with some krylon fusion and you're set.

It funny how when you DIY "people thinks in getto" yeah it cheap i can just go buy one but I enjoy making something that work great for me. egg crate there no drilling, water passes in and out easy. Don't get me wrong PVC work great I'm just to lazy to drill holes. Just keeping my rays healthy and happy and safe from danger is enough work

The tronic heater guards are discontinued. They are very hard to find in North America. I even looked on Ebay and couldn't find any. There's a new Fluval heater with electronic display that has a plastic coating around it.

I made one using the black aquaculture netting. Had some extra hanging around and it worked great. For the long term though I found that refugiums like CPR sells work great as heater holders. It keeps the tank free of those ugly heaters and it is a great way to re-purpose old equipment you stopped using after you got bored with reef tanks, or Katrina killed them which is why I got out.
