Heaters for 240gallon

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
So I reset the InkBird to factory and reconfigured to the 1 degree differential. It kicked on right away, as the temp had gotten down to 77.5.
I guess I was more so hoping it would maintaIn 80.0, as in it dropped below 80.0, let me kick the heaters in again or even .5 degrees, it kind of irks me that it has to drop an entire degree before it will turn them back on.

Yeah, the lowest differential setting is one degree, but that really isn’t anything to the fish. I’m not sure what heaters are normally set to for differential temp, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they are also set to a 1 degree differential.

Yeah, I am going to let it run as-is for a few days and see how it holds up. I have the Finnex heaters on hand now, but if I can send them back that wouldn't bother me one bit.

Any updates? I just ordered the 306 heat only model.

So I got my 306 today. There is a temp difference of about 2.5 degrees from what the Ink Bird unit is reading and my existing cheap digital therm shows. Have most of you experienced the Ink Bird unit to read pretty true? Just trying to decide which temp to go by...

All my InkBird controllers read about one degree higher than my digital thermometers in my tanks. Also, all my digital thermometers read within about .2-.4 degrees of each other. I would check your thermometer first, and then go from there.

Thanks for the input. I'll have to order a couple more therms in order to verify I suppose.

Ive had really good luck with these. I keep a spare to throw on any tank that I want to check. So far they have always been within .4 degrees of each other and I have 5 of them that I ordered at different times.

So, update from me. Granted, we have had warmer weather lately, but resetting the InkBird and re-configuring again seems to have done the trick. I check it at random times from morning to afternoon to night and have yet to see more than .4 off from 80.0. I am going to stick with my trusty Aqueon Pros and send the Finnex heaters back and call it a day.

Good to hear. Are you finding that the InkBird temp probe is accurate when comparing it to other thermometer readings or did you have to reconfigure the temp reading on the unit as well?

I have some of the digital thermometers with probes I ordered from Amazon and it tends to be within a degree or so of that. I actually find that the ones from amazon are a little more sensitive than the InkBird. But I didn't feel as if it was large enough of a difference to adjust the InkBird accordingly. I am happy with it as-is.
