my 250 watt stealth heats my 125

ever since pbass shattered glass heater ive used that for like 4 months .

yeah. i knew you used a smaller one, just didnt know what watt it was.
 
The standard rule of thumb for heaters is 5w per gallon. That is effected by many different variables, like ambient air temperature, water circulation past the heater, size (and relative heat) of pumps and equipment that contact or otherwise heat the water, and desired temperature.

I have a 50 gallon tank near a window that had a 300w stealth heater in it that could not keep the temp above 74 degrees (and it was working and hot). I had to add another 100 watt heater on the other side of the tank to get the temp up to 82. Ambient room temperature was 60ish.

I would always recommend a quality heater, preferably not glass (unless you have a sump, then if you get a quality one, you should be safe).

i decided to go with 1 250watt. its working, but i dont think im gonna put it in the sump unless it comes down to me having to.
