Heating a 125 gallon

The general recommendation is 3-5 watts per gallon but you can get away with a little less. I run 900 watts on an 800 gallon system and they hardly ever turn on but it is also well insulated.

I cut a 2 inch long 3/4 inch diameter PVC pipe longitudinal in half and silcone glued it to the upper corner of my tank so I can clip tight a heater onto it. This way the heater is rigidly and permanently secured and there is no danger of big fish banging it to the wall to break it. Suction cups are not secured and won't last for 6 months.
