heating..hmmmmmm?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
maybe go with three Fx5's, I agree sumps are a pain in the ___, but efficiant. and I would definetely go with stealths, the most reliable heater i've owned thus far

i mean ive tried a sump before and it just was all worng...

how did your sump fail?

umm 1/3 of my tank drained and all the oump didnt work well it was just a bad experience

guess you had no check valves or air holes to break the syphon...

put the heaters inside a piece of PVC and use a pump/powerhead to move water through it...

This is the in line heater I'm buying. won't work with your FX5's because it gets plumbed in 1 1/2" or 2" pvc. But a good heater for a good price. Considering the Ranco controller plus all the heaters you need. This one will last longer, stainless steel body, cheap replacement filament if it ever goes out. I'm sold.

could play with fittings and reduce it down to work with the fx5 wouldnt be a problem really...

i hear those heaters are crap, ive read alot of threads on other forums how their nothing but trouble.

why not just get a few 250w stealths and a ranco controller?

Stealths are crap in my opinion. I converted from a 1000 watt Titanium tube (which heated my 650 gallons of water great with a drip system), to 4 stealths with the same drip and it did not keep up. I then added another 250 watt stealth and it still did not keep up. I just added another 3 and now it does keep up.....Double the wattage with the same result an titanium tubes are not a great heater to begin with. Stealths maybe durable and long lasting but the heating power blows.

If I was going to do it again I would go for rena 300 watts. I have one on a 220 gallon and it heats it to 84 no problem.
