I don't know if you can do a variation of this technique with your Aro. But I used to simply corner my oscar and then scoop him out with a clean 10 gallon tank and then add the stuff to the water. After the treatment I would set the 10g across the top of the 55g and quickly transfer him back to the main tank with a towel. If you are quick enough he will be back in the main tank before he reacts.
When you are done, discard the 10g of medicated water and replace it with aged water. I disliked adding medications to the main tank because I was running an undergravel filter and the whole tank would have to be recycled and that's no place for a sick fish.
