Hello, All

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
ha ha i already have a couple of "animal specific" rooms in the house, for my Leopard Tortoises and Burmese Pythons. They Both got the hookup with radiant floor heat and their own 15x15 rooms. in the tortoises room there are 4 solar tubes, allowing them to get sunlight, they will even have planted vegitation.

Ok, you don't impress me with your "bachelors degree in Marine Biology and Ecology", or the fact that it has been "engineered into the house design", or that your moving from Florida to PA to start a saltwater tank (:screwy:) or the fact that you can apparently afford all this nonsense or that you Blah blah blah.

I just want to know where you found this wonderful wife? :headbang2

:D

On another note...have you searched the site yet there are several very large systems built and posted here (it really is worth the effort :D).

johnptc may be your best be for filtration, his willingness to share his research & construction techniques are unsurpassed here and can be applied to your project.

The knowledge base on this site is far superior to any other I have seen.

Is or was the tank pictured yours?

Any other info you can provide on the project will be helpful (i.e. stocking, substrate or lack of,schedule of completion, budget per area (filter/pumps etc)).

Thanks for joining us, I'm sure you'll like it here.

Dr Joe

We want pics!!! And of the tank too. ;)

Thanks for the welcome, To impress was not my goal!! simply to generate constructive conversation. I haven't even begun to think about substrate yet. The wonderful wife is "one-of-a-kind" as for budget i try not to think about it. When i got the Mortgage i took out an extra 50,000 just for this project but i can see that i am going to exceed that, the wonderful wife is a Chiropractor so hopefully i can tap into her income when needed. I wish i could find a good deal on Base Rock by the truckload. To save money i am going to only purchase a small amount of Live rock and sand (say 250lbs of each) and just slowly add small livestock to get the system to cycle. i figure it may take six months to get all of the levels where they need to be to support the livestock i want. just some ideas ..... a couple of Spiny lobster (big 5 to 10lbs), blacktip shark and a couple of bonnetheads. then i will use a plethera of reef dwellers for filler. oh yeah and i want a HUGE morray eel. i have done tons of Fish only tanks so here is a question for all of you reef guys. What lighting system can i buy to get live reef to grow in 7 feet of water?? I know most of the commercially available stuff is only good to like 30 inches.

i hear you earning so money as a toruist attration and diving lessions! pay for that tank in no time :)

Would it be possible to incorporate some solar tubes in this design like you are doing for the tortoise room? That should help out with your lighting problems.

i dont believe that is a possibility because the tortoise room is on the main floor, whereas the fish tank for obvious reasons has to be in the basement.

Wow...Good luck with your tank. Make sure to post some pics!
