Hi everyone,
I have been keeping fish for nearly 50 years, at first smaller stuff. Went through a saltwater phase when you could go collect anything you wanted. Later tried a mini-reef which did fair but was way too much work. Now into planted tanks w/ CO2 injection. Have a few larger fish: 135 planted tank w/ 4 Polypterus delaizi (spelling?) 2 P. ornatipinnus, 1 ropefish and 5 medium Bala Sharks. One non-planted 80 with Silver Arrowana, 5 severums, 5 silver dollars (hense the no plants) 1 red hook, 3 rainbow cichlids and 3 Juaparis.
Just got 2 baby Dats (thin bar unfortunately) about 1.5 inches. Had to seperate them into their own 10 gal. tank. Thinbars really don't seem to get along. I lost a wide bar last summer when lightning shorted out the controll to my titanium heater and the tank went over <90 F. Only one Poly died, man those things are tough!
Hope to get a large tank for the Arro and the chiclids. I hope to get back a couple of Ripsaw Cats (Oxydoras (Pseudodoras) niger)I had to donate to an indoor pond (they easily outgrew the 135!) if I can get a big enough tank (one is close to 30" now!). I miss them, they were really cool fish. Getting them out of the tank when they were small(er) was a trip, now it will be a battle! Does anyone else out there keep these cats? I highly reccommend them if you have a giant tank. They are very docile and could be kept with any fish from neons on up. The "shark's teeth" scales on the sides of their bodies are really nice.
Have enjoyed all the post, especially about the larger tanks and their set-up, I can see a bigger tank in my future!
Thanks
Sundew
