So I decided last night that my 120 Gallon looked a little bit bland so I went down to this lake and got some huge decorative looking rocks. I washed them off and put them in my quarantine tank overnight and put them in my 120 this morning. Got in the shower and came back and literally all my fish were dead. Ammonia and Nitrites both read 0ppm? Do I need to re-cycle my tank or what? And what could've caused this? I live in the middle of nowhere and I know for a fact that there has been no weedkiller or anything around these rocks.

I have put random rocks in my tank that "look cool" and have been lucky so far.. After being on MFK for awhile I learned a lot of rocks can actually be harmful in your tank depending on what they are made of.. A rock is just a rock isn't a good mentality to have when your putting them in tanks.. The rocks probably leached something harmful into your tank which may have killed all of your fish. Either way you should have left the rocks in your QT a lot longer than 1 night. I would recommend boiling them next time as well or use a 50/50 mix of bleach and water, then hit them with some dechlorinator. If you could get some pictures of the rocks, someone on here may be able to tell you what they are.. If you can't figure out why they all died, I would break the whole tank down and start from scratch.. Better safe than sorry IMO..

Okay. I already boiled them and readded to tank this morning. That post took forever to post due to my dsl. But yeah around 6 I had a dead tank and my param's were all fine like nitrates between 15-20 and like I said 0 ammonia and 0 nitrite. I just don't know if I should let my filters run for like 2 weeks to halfway "cycle" the tank or just empty it and start all over using my magic bottled bacteria that had my tank cycled in 2 weeks last time.

Oh and btw I use Stress Zyme to jump start my cycle with the double dosage it recommends so 4 teaspoons per 10 gallons and it actually works.

If it was me, I would break down the whole tank, that may be a little extreme.. If only some fish died I would probably move them and let it run empty for a little while. If all the fish died with an unkown cause I would break down everything and clean it.. I would wait to see what some of the other memebers on here have to say about it though. Some people may have been through this and may know the cause and could help you out better than me.. Did you check your heater to make sure it's still working?

Yeah temp was hovering around 78-79. I checked everything and I'm baffled. it killed of my koi that I had in there as well as my EBJD. But somehow my AST (Alligator Snapping Turtle) survived it all just fine, but was up in his basking area. This makes me wonder if the new koi I added about a week ago could've had a parasite or maybe Bowser ( my AST ) wasn't submerged enough to be affected by the chemicals?

What was your pH reading? A fluctuating pH could be the cause.. Can you post a picture of the rocks? You may have added a bunch of "huge" limestone rocks, which would raise your pH, but should of only stressed them, and not killed them that quickly. If you take the rocks out and put vinegar on them and they fizz they are probably limestone.
Sorry to hear.

Yeah Bowser's a cool little beast. Even though he's suffering in a 30 gal while I get this figured out :(

You have a snapping turtle, and electric blue dempsey AND a koi all in the same tank?
