You should not worry like some inteligent posts already asnwered your concern just be sure to be ur fish translator when its interests them, that is if u r home and its not mandatory for u to be home either.

The city won't care and unless you live in a prestigious place with a waiting list the apparrmwnr won't care as long as your place is clean and you pay your rent on time. Your building manager gets bonuses for meeting occupancy goals and making sure tenants are current on payments, not evicting good tenants with fish tanks.

I have my 125g on the second floor and a 45g 4ft long tank, and a 37g tall tank all in my living room. The apt lady was coming around w/ the bug spray guy about a month ago and the apt lady asked how many gallons my 125g was. I told her like 60-70. Anyhow, she was like "well if you would have asked us we probably would have said no since your on the second floor cause if it broke that would be a lot of damage" and I was like yeah well it's a sturdy tank and made of welded acrylic. Anyhow, I had to call them for our a/c later that week and went into the office and they were like "you're the one with all the fish tanks right?" and then when I told them I was they pretty much said they don't have anything in the lease against fish tanks so it's not a problem but if one of them breaks to definitely expect a bill for over 1,000$ from them that I'll be responsible for which I told them was fine because it is my tank and would be my responsibility if such a thing did happen.

Long story short though, if it doesn't say anything against them in the lease they really can't say anything legally IMO...

The bill would be much, much higher than $1000. Probably 10 times that. Not only would you be responsible for damage to your apartment(carpet, drywall, etc would all need to be replaced) but you would also be responsible for replacing the belongings of the tenant below you and responsible for the repairs to that unit as well. If you have large tanks you should always be carrying renters insurance with liability coverage.

It says OVER 1,000 and It's not my quote ace, it's what the land lords said. ;) Renters insurance. That's a good one. :P

The owner of the property has insurance to cover any tennannts.. Say I leave a cigarette burning and the apartment burns dowm I would not have to pay for damage to his building the insurance would cover it. D on't worry you pay his premiums with your monthly rent check.

Hmmm.... this is ONE of the reasons im trying to graduate get my degree, and get my own place...after finding a job... so no one can tell me what to do... my life time dream is a 10x3x3 tank... and you dont need a HUGE HOUSE, to do this, but you need to have enough power over your premises to do this... inspections always freak me out, since i live in a rented place...but i hope one day i can get my dream job done!

I would not worry about the inspection. If it is something that is not permitted they will give you time to remove. But that inspection is probably for building code violations.

"If a resident's actions cause a fire or other damage to their apartment, the owner's insurance company generally will initially cover it, but then will go after the resident for reimbursement. If the resident has renter's insurance, it will cover the damage. If not, the company tries to get reimbursement from the resident personally. "

""It's extremely important because, first and foremost, property owners don't cover tenants' personal property," said Kyle Samuel, assistant vice president with Aon Risk Services Inc. of Colorado."
