Help! Atlantic Stingray curling!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I agree with you (even though I dont know Shi*) about the fact that she seems a little young for that though.

If you want to start her on a vitamin, I'd look at using Mazuri Shark/ray vits.
Otherwise, use foods higher in calcium (clam, or things that havne't been peeled like krill, shrimp etc...).

alrighty: bought some clams. removed her water to an inch and a half below the top to allow more oxygen, added some salt today, and a drop of iron vitamin (JUST IN CASE) and did a 30% water change because todays test results showed amonia and pretty high nitrates. & gravel vac

she looks great!!!!!!!!!!! better than she has looked in a week! still a little downward taco action, but for the most part, she flat. swimming all OVER the place. Im happy bc i think shes gonna make it.

I'll keep you updated!

See? Told you they're hardy. :) Just watch her weight carefully and ensure she's eating well. They can handle a lot of issues with water, but if they lose weight for any reason, they get weak and then it's very hard to bounce back. Macy stopped eating when I switched to a new sand and lost a ton of weight -- her ribs were showing as were her hip bones by her tail/ventral fins and her disc was becoming see-through on the edges and thin like tissue paper. I offered every kind of food under the sun, but she wouldn't take it. Even though she started eating well again on whole shrimp, it was too late and she couldn't make it back. She just layed down on the bottom to rest one afternoon and never woke up. :( I really wish all the best for your little girl, I'm really pulling for her.

AWWW. whats hard is that I DONT KNOW whats wrong with her. I did so many things at once that I cant tell which is helping, and which isnt. But last night she was like totally happy. bouncing up and down the glass, playing in the bubbles again. Its just so wierd that she can go from THAT to her HORRIFYING downward taco curl. I just keep watching her....she eats everything I put in the tank. so thats good!! Im almost starting to wonder if shes just.....wierd....

It was like as soon as I started to add (salt) she flipped the opposite direction...I initially added salt bc she was curling up.....it helped for like a day, then she went the other direction. But she seems fine. When I add food...she curls down...swims around it in a circle, then attacks it, like its not dead or something :) then within 20 minutes shes very very active all over the tank. but in a noral way. fingers crossed. The extra oxygen coulda been a BIG part of the problem. removing some water really seemed to help. Should I and how can I add even more oxygen?

not a clue whats helping. Could be the iodine, the air, the food, the water, the salt. Theres no way for me to really know. but shes still looking great today.
