HELP! Bloated Jag. NOT Dropsy. Cant figure it out

what's the dosage for epsom salt for treating the tank? I keep seeing different dosage amounts wherever i look. Some say 1/4 teaspoon per 10 gallons all the way up to 1 tablespoon per 10 gallons...???

I don't know the correct dosage or even if there is technically a correct dosage. I know when I treated my Midevil for her vent prolapse I did a teaspoon per gallon of water. I also slowly added the salt over time to give her time to adjust to the change of water quality. Also remember once you add the salt that it does NOT evaporate so when you top off the water don't add more salt. Only add salt when you are changing the water.

I've down the 2nd option with no issues on a peacock bass.

Well. its not looking good. he isnt improving with all above methods.

Today i was removing the epsom salt and it looks like he has all these clear fluid filled blisters on his belly and one little one on his forehead. They look just like a blister you would get. Clear sac of fluid. Multiple ones.
His eyes are also slightly cloudy now.

I'm at a loss and I dont know that he'll recover from this. He still seems to have spunk enough to guard his tank from people, but if I looked like him I would want to die.

What is a good way to kill a large fish without cutting its head off?

I have been following this thread hoping to see a turn of events but sadly things seem to be just getting worse.
You could immerse the fish in water of very extreme temperature for a quick end to it's suffering.

yeah. I was really thinking I could beat this, but I'm just so at a loss! I tried everything!
The worst part is, he is just still sticking in there. I almost wish he would just throw in the towel and act really sick so I wouldnt keep feeling like I need to get him better. I did a 90% water change and didnt add anything back to the water.
If he's the same tomorrow I'll still wonder if I should end it.
If he's worse I'll end it for sure.

By extreme temperature, do you mean throw him in a pot of boiling water? lol Or just really hot?
Have you ever tried Clove Oil. I've heard that works, but never tried it.

Yeah,I have been in similar situations with a few fish in the past so I can appreciate how you must feel.
By extreme I mean very hot or very cold,either way will almost instantly put the fish down.I have heard of but have never used clove oil.

I would use clove oil. Would you rather be thrown into a volcano/artic waters or be put to sleep first and then slowly drift away. Many videos on how to use clove oil properly!

Edit: Also what if dipping in extreme temperatures doesn't instantly kill him, then he'll be in even more pain and suffering.

You suggested the clove oil and that is fine.We are not talking about how we would want to be killed,we are talking about a fish which seems to be past the point of no return.It is not a warm blooded mammal and if it is placed in very hot or very cold water it will die very quickly.

Ok. I let him suffer long enough. I just put him down. First with clove oil, that stuff works FAST! then when he was knocked completely out i added some alchohol to make sure he was dead and wouldnt revive.

After, I opened him up to see what the deal was. I guess for a minute I thought I was an Ichtheologist and and expert in fish anatomy.... not sure why I thought opening him up would answer any questions.

His belly was absolutely FILLED with a clear, jelly substance. First clear fluid cam out, then there was a bunch of just fluid sacs everywhere. He must have been miserable. Not sure what that stuff was, but I can finally be done with that.

Now to figure out what to do with the 125 now....
