Help for diy fluidized bed filter

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
That's one hell of a system. Are you sure the FBF is 10" diameter though?

I don't know if you need more bio area for SW or what, but it just seems excessive, even for a 1000gal. I also am not sure on the reasoning behind having a trickle tower AND a fluidized bed.

2 6" FBF's would be cheaper to make than a 10". 10" fittings are ridiculously expensive. However, to get equal volumes, you'd need to do 3x6" towers, or 7-8x4" towers. So you begin to see why 10" seems excessive, if one 2.5" will do a 300gal...

thanks for the info and well i almost figured all this out today
i found this web site were they sell the 10" pipe for like 10-15$ per foot figured i need 4 ft so that is like 40$ next i dont think i need fittings (in the 10" size), i also foud a site that sells pcv sheet which i could drill/ make circles and then epoxy it to the pipe
next i will not need to buy any clear 10" clear pipe(the stuff is like 100$ A FOOT!!) since i figured that by making a hole in the pipe and then heat-bending thin acrylic sheet in a round form, i could cover the hole and epoxy/silocone it in place: now we have almost FREE windows!! now after having counted the sand and all fittings i am way under the 300$ mark(dont know how much they sell the real thing for but shure as hell saved tons of $$$)
just to be shure, there would not be any problems with running one of these for the system right?http://www.aquaticeco.com/index.cfm/fuseaction/product.detail/iid/7685/cid/1953
and does anybody know if this is 115v or 230v?

put the trickle filter in because it was in the kit but after thinking about about it it is there because if the fbf dies because it was stopped then you still have bacteria and u dont have to re-cycle ur tank, could be worth the investment in case power goes out one day and....
