HELP Hard water and Limescale

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
No sarcasm intended, but if you read it that way so be it. I was merely stating that there is basic regular maintenance involved in anything, and that doing it regularly prevents it from getting out of hand and requiring far more effort. But since posting that, I happened across another thread in which you described the process of cleaning your impellers monthly as a "total nightmare". 🙄

If the two of us can describe the same thing in such different terms, I guess we just enjoy different levels of drama in our lives. I'll leave you to yours. :)

Ok yeah cool I never dissected the motor but I took it apart as much as possible as you say I removed the impeller and cleaned the chamber, everyone else understood what I meant so thank you for your sarcasm it’s greatly appreciated
Hello; I fuss with jjohnwm often over non-fish topics. We manage to be civil to a large degree. I also find his posts to be informative especially when it comes to fish topics. It is ironic that I take his side, but you are in the wrong on this one.

Since Asian Arowana prefer a pH between 6 - 7, an RO unit would probably beneft more that just combating the lime scale,
keeping that species healthy long term may rely on holding mineral content to a minimum.

I have actually booked for a company to come round and quote me on a water softener this week as the softer water will benefit bother the aro and the zebra shovelnose cat

I understand you may disagree with my perspective, and you’re free to engage and side with whomever you choose. My intention was simply to share how his comments came across to me—they felt sarcastic, particularly in the way he spoke about the effort involved in maintaining the likes of large aquariums and the equipment, I didn’t respond well because it seemed as though he was downplaying the level of hard work I know is required, as if I’m unaware of the commitment it takes.

Water softeners (those that replace the calcium ion, with the sodium ion (salt)) are not the same as the pure soft water from nature, and/ or water where minerals have been reduced by RO.
Those water standard softeners (Culigan etc) are there to reduce scale, and aid in producing suds for washing clothes, they are not the same, or do not benefit fish that require soft, low pH, reduced mineral content water.

Thank you for bringing that to my attention, I have also been looking at the RO system for my home such as the below. Do you think this would be a better option ?

I did also have a ARKA MyAqua 380 delivered today and I was going to start making some RO water to use when doing water changes
