I have never had a sick aro
regular water changes and good food

nitrate measured before wc when i noticed jar was seeming unwell was 20ppm nitrate, 0 nitrite and 0 amonia.

5 to 6 weeks ago, jardinii stoped eating shelled shrimp stuffed with massivore which it used to love
wasnt worries, they go through fasting stages

i trid feeding a couple of mealworms, which i feed my other fish too.
gut loaded with fish food and carrots.

ate that so to avoid spoiling it, waited more
never ate and seemed just lethargic and just floating around.

i thought this was due to me taking out its tank mates. and leaving it by it self with a pleco.

then i decided to feed it a nice meal of mealworms.
ate heaps.
noticed that it was lazy to open its mouth

my other aros open their mouths wide and really gunning for the food

but it ate and looked ok, water params ok.

then i fed it a gold fish from the store, goldfish not meant for feeders, so it was nice and fat. i also injected the fish with some seachem garlic guared to get its appetite goin, i did this with my other aros, and works well and get really ravenous afterwards

it ate it with no troubles
fed more mealworms.

noticed that in a few days, only some poo was present, its stomach wasnt getting smaller - stopped feeding 3 days ago.

just now i checked the tank, it seemed to have vomitted undigested mealworms from a couple days back, and kinda a fat layer was floating on the water with some semi digested mealworms .

i noticed that the sacales on its stomach area and around the bottom of the body was slightly elevated and not flush like the others. kinda like flared a little.
its not twitching or anything, just seems lethargic. and swims slowly
i did a good wc, and replaced with warm water, some stress coat and seachem prime to make sure it was comfortable as possible.

im also gonna turn on the heater to heat up to 30degrees to 31 degrees.
is this ok?

anyu suggestoins?
help me please
hes a fatty!
huge jar lol
girthy monster and really really dont want it to die.

shoudl i turn up the heat more?
or leave it at 30 to 31?
or leave it at 28?

is it impacted? constipated and what can i do about that?

should i put epsom salt in the water?

Henward have you ever thought about feeding your fish less? you seem to overfeed them.

ok....what does tha tmean
do i put aquarium salt or epsom salt?
or none realy

yeah, i should feed less - i will feed less from now on
but this one never ate that much - just half a piece of shrimp a day sometimes none.
and a few mealworms, not much at all.

wonder whta i can do?
any suggestions?

or jsut raise tem pa nd hope for the best and no feeding

1 tbsp of EPSOM salt per 10 gallons, DO NOT USE aquarium salt. sounds like a case of constipation, scales flare up also sounds like dropsy. raise temp to 84-86, epsom salt, do not feed it, do daily wc

melafix would treat bacteria...idk, remember this is EPSOM salt

Metronidazole
1. Remove carbon/resins from filter.
2. Perform a 30-50% water change (reduces free-floating bacteria population)
3. Add salt (teaspoon to a tablespoon per gallon) to aid the fish's osmotic regulation processes.
4. Treat with 250mg/20gallons of Metronidazole (Flagyl)
5. Leave for 3 days and do not feed.
6. After 3 days, perform another large water change.
7. Replace the salt.
8. Add full dosage of Metronidazole.
9. Wait another 3 days. During this phase, the bloat should be decreasing in appearance. In large fish, the water may take on an ammonia odor from the high volume of urea the fish should now be producing due to reducing the bloat and recovering renal activity.
10. 3rd day, another water change. Also, replace the salt and redose the metronidazole (full dose). If the fish looks to be well on the road to recovery you can offer a small feeding each day.
11. Another water change on the 3rd day. No meds but, I'd recommend the salt. You should be clear now.

try the epsom salt, wait for 4 hours if swelling doesnt go down do the above treatment

your first post was 1tablespoon per 10 GALLON

this one says 1teaspoon or tbsp PER gallon

i am at stage 3, i put 1tbspo per 10 gals.
i will get the anti bacterial stuff tomorrow when the stores open.

then i will leave for 3 days.

clarify with me, is it PER gallon or PER 10 GALON?
