Just curious mbuna, what size tank are they in ? I don't think i've ever seen a FTS of your tank, or specs.
they are in a 80 gallon tank. heres a shot of it when i first got it, its got 2 eheim externals on it and 2 internals.

I found Jags a pain in the ***, ether the male of the female was beating the other half to death, then there is the eating thing, every spawn I had with the Xanthic would stop him from eating anythink at all, was a pain to get him eating again......

maby its just the Xanthic thats the pain in the *** lol

now I have cubans im seeing a better fish, they live with each other with out any aggression, also with or with-out fry they eat like pigs

ime jaguars do seldom eat when breeeding, and after the first couple of spawns they reallly don't attack each other enough to hurt eachother- when starting to breed my female really went at the male.

80g's is a little small for an adult breeding pair of jags isn't it? Bolty kept them in a 120 when he had them and they still fought. Also, you've really got to seperate them before it's too late. I kept on putting off getting a divider for my xiloaensis pair, and then one day I checked on the tank and my female was dead.

doesn't matter how large the tank is they'll always fight, 80 gals is just small for an adult pair though, 13-14" average for females 15-16" for normal males. i would say a 5-6'x18" footprint minimum with 6'x2' preferable.

My male was hellbent on killing the female in my 156 tank but they're completely fine with absolutely no aggression in the 253.

i find it's no different being that they still inhabit the same breeding space and are still breeding together. do you have fish in with them in the 253, dithers always help spread aggresion off of target fish, how many times have they bred in your 253, and your 156?- i'm asking because alot of pairs stop almost all fighting after 2-3 succesful spawns

I have a Labiatius and a Festae along with 8 Silver Dollars in with them. They've only bred once in the 253 and never in the 156. He hated her with a passion in that tank but accepts her 100% now...weird.
