Help How To Use Ehiem 2227

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
oh i guess ima just sell them and buy a mechanical filter like fx5 then check the market place soon people cuz im doinng 2 for $150

1. First, verify the filter is properly assembled, has NO WATER in it and the power cord IS NOT plugged into the wall outlet.

2. Put the intake pipe with strainer into the aquarium,

3. place the small diameter breather tube/pipe so that it hangs over the aquarium rim but IS NOT submerged under the water line,

4. hold the output hose in your hand and briefly suck on the end of the hose to start the water siphoning into the filter. Just hold the output hose over the aquarium until you see the water rise in the output hose until it is close to the rim of the aquarium. Now connect the output hose to the spray bar, if you are using one.

5. Now you can plug in the power cord to the wall outlet. The filter should start working properly.

Any other questions, just ask. I own one 2229 and it is basically the same as a regular Eheim filter but it is really designed to only use bio media and not mechanical media/pads.

What size tank were you going to use this filter on?

Hey

I have tried all these, but can't get it to work. I have also taken out the float and checked it, The pump works and is on but water does not flow. When I suck on the outlet pipe the water reaches the tip of the outlet but does not flow constantly after that. Any suggestions; would appreciate the help as it is driving me nuts..

Is this a used filter? Did you get the instructions with the filter?

Can you measure the distance from the rim of the aquarium to the top of the canister filter? There is a minimum and maximum operating height on this filter to work correctly.

Hey
Thanks for the reply.
I got the whole setup from someone who had it all working; I saw it working.
When I cam to clean it, as instructed, and then tried to re run it became problematic.
The lengths of the pipes have not changed or anything. I have also tried to place the filter on a footstool
to try and give it some height.
When I use the 'suck' method to fill the filter, the water does not run continuously into the bucket / tank no matter how hard I try to suck the water in.
I am going to try it from scratch this weekend, but tbh it is a right PITA.

That sounds like maybe a piece of media is stuck in the hose somewhere since once the filter is primed with water AND you place the output lower than the aquarium, the water should continue to run out of the filter.

I don’t know anything about that canister but I would guess there’s a brake in the syphon somewhere. Check any where the hoses connect to any hard plumbing to making sure there’s no air getting in.
