Help i have ick

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Does anybody know the specific gravity is that I want to be aming for. I cant find a conversation for % to specific gravity I have a Digital Refractometer but is doesn't read out in %

Will salt make my api test kit read off I am read off I am reading ammonia now and I have been at zero for over a week now. Could it have been my UV light that killed my BB that I just started to use?

Salt shouldn’t mess with the BB. The BB are on ur media and not free floating. I’d do a recheck and if off then a water change.

I know it won't mess with the bacteria I was wondering if it would mess with the test because it's for fresh water not salt. I rechecked it and it is still .25 PPM. I was haveing a Bacteria bloom because it is a new tank that I seeded with another tank That's why I was wondering about the UV light too. I just added some more bio media from my other tank so we will see what that dose.

Salt at 3ppt will not kill BB.
And since BB is sessile (meaning it lives on surfaces (not planktonic) like filter media and substrate, means your UV will not kill it. UV only kill what flows thru the tube and is hit by the light.

I know that's why I put in the post that is a new tank and I was going through a bacteria bloom. When the tank is new I was under the Assumption that the cloudy water was the BB Colonizing and settling on everything in the tank. There for can be killed bu the UV light it's not green it is white cloudy water. My bio load has not changed i am feeding less because of the ICK, So the only 3 variables are temp, salt and the UV light. I have not shown any ammonia for over a week until now

Ok I am lost about 3 days into the heat and salt I could not see anymore ich now I just saw some spots on my fish 3 weeks later and I still have the temp at 88 how is this possible? Can I just set up my Continuous drip system at a high rate and keep the temp up?
