Help! I think I have Bichir Eggs! Not sure what to do! *pics*

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Alrighty, here we go for yet another update. I still have one little fry guy, the same one. No others, although there is one that looks promising. All other eggs look like they're all gray and lifeless...I'm keeping them though just in case, at least for another day...if they don't show progress by then, I'm pretty sure they're gone.

Just got some baby brine shrimp eggs. SHEESH!!!! Can they be any more complicated to hatch?! Anyone have any experience with hatching baby brine and have a much easier method? I thought about getting frozen ones, but I want the best for my baby bichir(s). I have frozen bloodworms too, which I can defrost and chop into teeny bits if that's better. Any input will be greatly appreciated.

well done , keep us all updated ,you must be really pleased ,shows your keeping your fish really well

Well, I don't know about that...but, I am doing the best I can. This is seriously a learning experience. Having only basic knowledge of aquarium/fish keeping, I walked into my lps and saw these two bichir's. I just had to have them and would do anything to get them.

Then...they started laying eggs.

Hehe, its fun though. Turned I'm getting much more experience than anticipated! I just hope that I'm documenting well enough for other's who are trying to breed theirs. I really don't know what I'm doing.:D

I think that it's awesome that you have some little guys hatching in your tank! Take good care of them and be sure to keep posting pics!

It's pretty simple to hatch brine shrimp. Just follow directions. Add dechlorinator and salt. And an air bubbler and they hatch in I think two days. Been awhile since I hatched any as I got out of breeding and raising baby angelfish awhile ago..lol.

Without a doubt the thread I'm following most closely so far this year. I'm definetly rooting for your sucess despite my overwhelming jealously :)

Right on. Can I use regular table salt. Instruction say aquarium salt (rock salt). I'm afraid to add table salt because of the iodine.

Table salt should be ok. I've used it. And correct me if I'm wrong 'cuz I'm not totally 100% but I think most fish fry need live brines as a first food

(as opposed to frozen brines)to survive.

But I bet Beblondie will know for sure.
