I have a pair of senegals around a year and a half old that have laid eggs, but the eggs mysteriously disappeared after a few days, and they haven't laid eggs again. This happened around 2 months ago. Now, I noticed the exact behavior mentioned in earlier post. Head nudging/fins out etc.....

Hmmmm....keep watching!

Update for everyone.

I went and got a little fry nursery and moved the eggs into it. In checking around to make sure I got as many eggs as possible, I was surprised by a little fry swimming around underneath one of the potted plants. I debated whether to just leave him there or not. I hope I didn't make a mistake, but, I transfered him with the rest of the eggs into the nursery. I'm now worried sick that I may have doomed him...I really hope not. Then again, I would've been worried sick if I had just left him where he was. Darned if you do, darned if you don't, right?

Anyway, I have about ten eggs and the fry all taken care of. I'm hoping that everything goes well from here. As stressful as this has all been, I appreciate the experience and it's been a total joy. I love my bichir's (probably a little too much).

Again, will keep you all updated. Thanks again for all the wonderful support and advice. I think I've pretty much compiled everything people are saying and put it into practice, we'll see if it all works out huh?

I couldn't get this far without all of you! :headbang2

very cool yep the male cups its fin to fertilize the eggs

If you have eggs GET THEM AWAY from the parrents if you wan't them to survive for fry food i've heard then sometimes except baby brine shrimp and baby blood worms

sperating the fry with the eggs was the right thing to do

I believe when you say you have done it, but these are snails....How would she have gotten in between the glass and the pot? Pic 1 is a snail also....

Again, I understand why you'd say that and I might believe you if I didn't witness the process with my own two eyes (on a number of occasions).

What you are seeing in my pics are not snails. The egg on the bottom is the fry that hatched and I ended up finding him under the pot...alive. My female didn't need to get behind there. The eggs have some weight to them, so, she just swam over it and the eggs were deposited on the plant, then gravity did the rest.

Killerfish, thanks for the words of support. I've gained more courage knowing that you all are here. MFK rocks! Consider me a lifer! If this all works out, I give credit to all who've given me support and advice. These will be as much your bichir's as they are mine!;)

First, I'm not sure what you just said, and frankly, I'm not sure that you are understanding what I'm saying either. Sorry "bro".

I think you need to reread the thread from the begining. I've been pretty nice and I'm not sure you understand that you're coming across as condescending. I'm just here trying to get help, not get beat up by people who argue about my pics or the way I'm phrasing things. K thanks!

Also, if you're going to call someone a "bro", please, please, please, make sure they're not female first.

I do see that you're a very active member on these forums and that's awesome, but I'm new here. I was under the impression that this is a place for learning. I find it unfortunate that you feel otherwise...at least, that's what I'm getting from your posts. If I'm wrong, my deepest apologies. Perhaps we can discuss this further through PM's because right now, I'm just seeking information about what is going on with my bichir's and trying to communicate the best way I know how, the behaviors that I'm seeing.:hitting:

You're totally right, let's just have fun. I must have been confused by all the "..." (BTW, that's not meant to be critical, just pointing out that it is tough to hear a person's tone through text). I'm not meaning to get ugly about being called a bro, it's happened a few times in this thread already, I was just reacting to how I thought you were saying stuff. Which, it sounds like you're saying is the opposite. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong, then my apologies. Forgive me?;)

Anyway, if we can get past this hiccup then here's a couple of pics of the fry. He's moving all over the place.
