Help! I think I have Bichir Eggs! Not sure what to do! *pics*

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
You should call him "Rocky" because he's a little fighter!!!

Sad update today peeps. The little bichir has passed. He was eating for a little while and I don't know why he died. He's not moving or anything and usually he would swim around really fast and land in the pile of baby brine, to eat I can only assume. Now, he's not moved for a day and I've given him little nudges to no avail. I'm reluctant to just get rid of him, as there have been times in the past where, he's played dead. Anyway, I gave it my all and I hope this isn't the last time my sen pair will mate.

R.I.P little fry.

Im curious if the fry accompany mom and dad for a while like channa species? Anne anyother more insight ?

i doubt this. somehow i think if they hang around, the parents might make a snack out of them :D

when they first hatch, they're not free swimming, and then not long after they become free swimming and start eating and growing, they become cannibalistic, so i don't think they'd like to hang around as a group in the open.

In the smaller upper jaw species the parents would just as soon eat them as swim with them. Its the main reason to seperate parents and eggs.-Anne

Ok interesting, with channa species the fry hang around for a few days and feast on mom and dads slime coat.

Oh no way!!! So sorry to hear about the lil guy...hopefully now that they have some practice they will breed again soon. Keep us posted!
