I will ask again where was it collected?

I just think it looks like a 191. Like I said it is hard to tell most of them apart.
I say looks like and not is because I'm not sure. So I never gave you answer of it is 100% 191. I left it to you to find out where it was collected. If you trust who you bought it from and they say Peru then it's a Peru green.
My first thought was 418 Peru green. There is lots of confusion regardless of what people want to think or admit to when it comes to these two fish.
You can answer your own question by finding out where it was collected.

will my fishshop seller be able to tell me where they got it from? i would expect a standard answer like this, "i got them from my supplier, exactly where im unsure"...

so.. i rather get your views. yup.

If you paid what I would assume you paid for a beautiful pleco like that, your lfs should be able to find out where it was collected. Besides they are basicly the same fish with only slight differences that no one can really decipher 100% without known origin. So we could go back and forth on this for days. My opinion is you have one of the best looking panaques I have ever seen. I would enjoy him thoroughly. And if u wanna call him a 418 I will go with it.

I completely understand what you mean.

That's what I hate most about LFS's is they have no clue what they are selling.

I asked my brother who is much more experienced than I am with these two and he says if he had to give you a for sure answer 418. He says thats not 100% though. It just what he thinks it looks like. He suggested the same thing I did. Try to find out where it was collected. No harm in trying. It has to be on their list. Unless they bought it from a jobber.

If it says colombia it's 191. If it says Peru its a 418. The list might not say the name of the country instead it might say what location it was collected from. Then just search that name and it will tell you what country it's in from the two mentioned above.

You can search all over the Internet and see people saying look at my 418 when it is clearly 191 and vise versa. Mostly it's big 191 being sold as 418. Those hobbyist were misled by the seller trying to fetch a higher price on the fish. You also have the sellers being misled by the exporters as well.

I think it's beautiful and you should be proud to own it :)

yup i paid for it. it was painful on my wallet. or rather my bank! :D

cause i am new, i dont know what is the ideal look of a 418.

ofc, i hope to call it a 418 but i am unsure cause it has V shaped teeth rows.

but the seller was so confident that it was a 418 that he gave me a money-return guarantee.

when u said its one of the best looking panaques, what is it about this specimen that makes it one of the best looking?

ok I will call that person as soon as his shop opens !

I paid 650 SGD for this, equivalent to about 500 USD. for an 18 incher. do you guys think its worth it?

i asked the shop owner, how would he grade the specimen, he told me 8/10 currently. but when the specimen regrows its "spikes" at the mouth and fin, he would rate it above 9.5/10.

do u guys share his sentiments?

I'd say he is worth every penny. I honestly thought you would have paid between $750-$900 USD. Im sure a couple people might argue that point but as they say, Let the haters hate. I say thay it is beautiful because he is 18"+ and still has stunning markings. Which is a good sign of 418 because one of the most often agreed apon conclusions is that 418 keep they finage markings while they tend to fade in the 191's. Any chance we can get a belly shot of this beast?

Regardless the price is good.

Both can keep the pattern so that's another way that people use to ID that is not 100%

The only one that has the I guess you can call it U shape teeth is the l-27 "xingu" the rest all have V shaped teeth even other l-27's

Im not a fan of grading fish. No offense but that's an east Asian thing. IMO more of a marketing scheme.

Your fish was worth the money and your fish is beautiful.

I will say it again be proud of it :)
