Help, im losing my MM!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I know the urge to keep checking on it is great but keep the lights off. Even when doing the small water changes. Don't remove the blanket either just pull back a corner and remove the water from one corner. You want as little stress as possible. Leave the live foods in at all times. If you feel the need to check just lift a small corner and peek in. Personally I wouldn't even treat with Prazi or salt, but that is me. It can further stress and reduce O2. He is malnurished from the capture, holding and transflight to states. The stinger is irrelevant unless there is fungus and it doesn't appear to have any.
Water change, Water change Water change in small amounts.

Ive had it since wed night. I tried feeding it rosey reds on day two and when it wouldnt take them I tried nightcrawlers the next day. Heres a pic of how it looked when I recieved it.

I added in 15 ghost shrimp and 1 tablespoon of bloodworms. I am keeping the tank covered with blankets, I am praying he takes them.

also he is missing his stinger, could that have something to do with it?

It was thin when you got it. I can also see disc damage on the side that is bad now. I don't think the stinger being removed is the cause, but how it was removed may be a contribution. You had your work cut out for you when you got the ray from that pic. It didn't look liked it had been eating at the vendors. I find it odd that osa had sent you a bad ray, I have herd nothing but good things about him.

so is the consensus that I should keep doing waterchanges? If so how much and how often. I will make sure to leave the covers on the tank and only lift a corner to do a wc or perform a quick check on it.

It will be a miracle if this ray survives! The skinniest ray I've seen!

I saw this ray when it was at OSA I happen to be there picking up a few rays myself that day and I saw the mm and he didn't look like this he looked pretty healthy to me aside from him being a little skinny but he looks horrible now the fact they he got shipped into OSA and then bought so fast and shipped again cross country might be playing a big roll in stress level and and him not eating all my rays so far have come from OSA and all are thriving as far as the barb I didn't notice when I saw him there weather or not he had a barb at that time or not but I hope he pulls threw for you just listen to the ray experts on hear and with their help he might pull threw GL with him

If you are having ammonia issues definitely keep doing small water changes. 25-30 %

They don't get that skinny within a few days. Attempt to feed Black worms and possibly earthworms. I would test the water and do water changes based on what you find. Best of luck.

Yes. Daily a small amount like 10-25%. Try some live black worms rays can't resist them. Then if he takes them keep him eating them with the water changes. Do that until he gets some weight on. Then you can try other foods. Live black worms are better then blood worms now because what black worms he doesn't eat at first will bunch up and he can have constant access to them. He needs constant access to food until he is better.

I would stay away from ghost shrimp for now. Small stressed rays can get further stressed by their picking. Lots of blackworms and you can pull it out. Best food for fattening up small stress rays because it doesn't take much effort to eat them.

Sad to see a ray in that condition but there is lots of good info in this thread so hope for the best. Reminder for when buying rays...Should always try and get a video of it eating with a picture of the current newspaper in the video and always try and pick it up in person. WC's are always a gamble and captive bred are usually the way to go when buying rays. This one hasn't ate for a while.
