Help! I'm trying to find a new reptile!

Ok, so apparently the crickets I got at Petsmart were no good. My green tree frog ate them, started shaking violently, and then died. He was the only animal in my 40 gallon tall. Now, I'm going to put a new animal in it. I will clean in all up, and I can remove the water divider (it was a paludarium). I don't care if it's tropical or desert. I was thinking along a number of lines except snakes as my mom hates them. Here's what I was thinking:

3 Green Tree Frogs
or
2 Whites Tree Frog
or
2 Schneider's Skink
or
1 Tokay Gecko
or
1 Plated Lizard
or
1 Chinese Water Dragon (I know he would need an upgrade, willing to build him a cage when he gets bigger)

Any other suggestions? What do you guys think? If it's under $20 I'll probably get it on Sunday. Parents might chip in for the water dragon though because mom likes the color. I know the parents like the jungly look better, but I could definitely do the skinks. I should add that I really like the lizards more than the frogs.
 
never get tokayas! there mean as hell!
tree frog are cool but they bark in the night
skinks are cool
i go with the chinease water dragon :)
and bearded dragons are cool and so are leopard geckoes :)
 
I actually really like tokays and could definitely handle the bite (I like the aggressive factor. I already have a leopard gecko, and I don't think the beardie would like a tall tank.

I think I am deciding between the Schneiders Skinks, the Plated Lizard, the Chinese Water Dragon, or the tokay gecko. Oh, how I love lizards!

I think if I ever get another green tree frog again, it's gonna live in a 10 gallon vertical.
 
there is actually a very red and yellow plated lizard at a LFS for sale for $29.00 that has been there for a few months and looks pretty nice, about 8 inches long. What does everyone else think?

Oh! I get it now. At first I thought you mistyped green tree frog lol.

As a side note, why the plated lizard? What do you not like about the others? I would like to know why you choose each species, in addition to which one.

I'm also kind of rethinking on that CWD. I would build him a bigger enclosure when he needed it, but I think it's better to buy something that will permanently fit the tank. Although again, I really like that green color.

As of right now, the tokay is at the bottom of the list, merely because it is gonna be difficult to find one.
 
I'd either go with the plated lizard or the water dragon, but that's just my personal opinion. Not a huge gecko or frog fan, and skinks don't seem as interesting to me as some of the larger lizards out there. Plus those two are pretty decent prices to find at an LFS.
