Help! I'm trying to find a new reptile!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Plated lizards have always had a special place in my heart I guess, very interesting creatures for me there was never a dull moment with these guys but again I guess its just preference.

As for the CWD you could always get him if you like, they are cool creatures the only thing is their spacial requirments which can cuase them to be a challenging(well not challenging but you know what i mean) But if you are positive you could give the lizard a proper enclosure and a good life i don;t see why not.

Good luck! Isn't choosing the hardest part? lol

I really don't like bullfrogs. Had one before for a while. He kept trying to eat his reflection. Stupid thing attacked his reflection so hard he knocked himself out! I finally sold him for $2.00 to the LFS.

So I'm pretty much settled between the CWD and the Plated Lizard.

Ok, so apparently the crickets I got at Petsmart were no good. My green tree frog ate them, started shaking violently, and then died.

I've owned more than a few herps, worked in a petshop for years and cared for their herp's, and never once have I seen this happen. May I ask how big the cricket and the frog were?

FYI some of the plated species commonly available can get quite large and might require more spacious accomadations later on. Be sure of what species your getting and do some research on it. That being said I'd go with the plated. Why? Because one you seem willing to build a larger enclosure if needed, two thay reach a larger yet still manageable size, three they are super easy to feed, four they have awesome layed back personalities and five I've just always liked them= )

Plateds will do well for now, but I think they will need larger accomodation in the near future. The Schneider's skink reminds me of a slightly albino blue tongue in a sense, so that could be an option if you like blue tongues. I have a liking for armoured and cryptic things in general. Even better if they are fat. :grinno: So...plated lizard?

my frog was about 2 inches, with the crickets being about half an inch long.

So the Chinese Water Dragon is out. Dad decided they looked evil... :screwy:

Now I'm stuck between the Plated, or the Schneiders, or even the tokay if I can find it (I love geckos, as is evidenced by my only 2 other lizardss: a leopard and a white spotted wall gecko).

I guess I'll just see what all the LFS around here have to offer.

dammit, i was just about to say CWD.
i absoloutly adore them. well....males more lol just stunning colours.

well, it looks like all reptiles/amphibians are out. Mom decided that she wants it to be a fish tank again, so I am going to get a dwarf lionfish and a squirrelfish.

Sorry guys, I would have rather had the lizard.

I wouldn't give up so easily, try to convince your parents to get another reptile. State reasons and facts why you want one and how you'll be able to care for it. My mom is paranoid of salmonella and that my tegu has a forked tongue. I approached my mom with a list of reasons why I wanted the reptiles and how I would be able to care for it. This method convinced my mother to let me get my crested gecko and my argentine tegu. Show them responsibility and act like a adult, and you'll be able to make your own decisions.
