yep. plan to keep him. he's still able to find the pellets on the bottom but just that he gobbles up the substrate along with the pellets he then spits out the substrate.

That's awesome that you're keeping him. Maybe try a bare bottom tank, with a dark tinted sheet of perspex to reduce the glare off the bottom of the tank? Then he can't eat the substrate. Its just not (IMO) the most appealing to the eye.


Also, please try to remember me when posting pics of him in the future, I'd love to see him when he's full grown.

Holy wowzas his eye is really cloudy. Bruce's isn't anywhere near that bad thank god..

Coludy eye aside, you have a gorgeous fish.

Yea, it started off as cloudy now its well as you can see just whitened out. He was the pick of the three Dats i got and the first one to eat pellets

Gave off another similar sized one because of the fights and now have a smaller one who still insists on eating shrimp/feeders.

He's the largest fish in the tank and seeing him like this just kills me.

Yes that is a good looking dat....bummer...as for the smaller one that you have,I would cut out the feeders and begin stuffing the shrimp with pellets.

thanks and yes stopped the feeders ages back once they got into the main tank. he has started to eat at pellets more out of hunger than anything else. Hope he bulks up soon.

Well good then.Stick with the pellets and nothing else until it is eating them without hesitation.
