In the end, if you don't have the tank now, then you shouldn't be getting the fish now either...
I hope you didn't mean this as a blanket rule?
are you not aware of clown loach growth rates?

Sorry if I cam off rude that was not my intent. Don't get a ray until you are ready, keeping rays can either be a dream come true or your worst nightmare if you are not properly prepared.

The amount of personality and the manner in which rays usually die (Death curl) make them one of the most heart wrenching fish to loose. I just wanted you to understand that in 12 months you will need a different tank there is really no two ways about it.

I assume you are young and there will be plenty of time for ray keeping down the road :)

very true.
in just under a yr's time, i am now upgrading from my growout tank to a 300g diy tank. they grew from 3in disc, 4in tail, to 7in disc, 11in tail. not even fully grown yet. so you see the 18in tank would be no good.

There is a ton of great info here, you just gotta read up on it.

this isn't the clown loach section it's the Ray section so for rays yes it's pretty much a blanket rule. There is fish keeping and there is Ray keeping. Just because you are ok with fish doesn't mean you will be good with rays there are alot more requirements.
If the op would just do research and read a little bit then he wouldn't of asked the question in the first place. I wish a requirement to post a thread in this section would be to read the stickies. Then this forum would be alot better as the same questions wouldn't be posted every third thread.

Doing research you will also learn who has experience and who doesn't so when gshock and others post you listen. He is tired of always answering the same questions do he is now just blunt and to the point like many others. You will also learn who is new to keeping and just regurjitating what they have read but have no experience with yet.

So do your research and know who to listen to even if it's very blunt and not the sugar coated answer you want to hear.

I do hope when the op is ready and gas done his research he will come back and enjoy Ray keeping because ones that aren't prepared end up with dead rays.

Does he have the tank yet? :screwy: When you stay on these forums long enough, you notice most of those who "plan" to upgrade don't upgrade becuase something pops up later on and they are unable to or they just don't want to and say they will to shut people up. In the end, if you don't have the tank now, then you shouldn't be getting the fish now either...

Right people make not like what's being said but it's 100% true most planned big tanks never happen

I can see why people always say they will upgrade when needed if they are 100% sure they are going to upgrade why not get the big tank 1st then buy the fish to stock it

Hi Steveo, i think you have got what you wanted for an answer...in a few more ways than expected LOL

A lot true and as i have seen from yourselve you are leaving it for now, good idea if you are not sure if you can rehome them to a larger tank.

BUT to the folk who say if you get a fish in this case rays, you should have a tank big enough from the start.

Geeeessssss what the hell have i done i must be :screwy:, i have 2 motoros, 1 TSNxRTC and an silver aro in a 6x2x2, i intend to keep them for many years......

BUT i could of built a 12x6x4 straight away, but no, i decided not to as i didnt want to enjoy bringing up my fish in a tank that we would hardly ever see them in, Oooooo hunny look....what...... i think thats a ray over there , where hunny:ROFL:
