HELP ME I NEED EXPERT HELP BACTERIAL INFESTATION

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i just went through the same thing in my 750g. Almost lost both of my aros and a big cichla. I did a ton of research on fighting columnaris and eventually went with triple sulfa. It fights gram negative bacteria and it didn't harm my rays in any way. I followed the dosage and recommended water change on the bottle along with adding salt everyday. I kept my temp between 82-84. All the fish are doing fine and eating again. One aro has a few remnants on his scales and lost his barbells. Its been a long couple weeks though. Good luck

i need treatment ideas.i need to treat today like right now. mike said to use oxytetracycline but i cannot find a product that contians it.i need something that will kill off a broad range of bateria any ideas quick

i tried prazi on one of the cichlids and it killed it very fast.i thought prazi is for parasites.

anyways i still and looking for bacterial treatments. i see a bit of fungus looking white tuff or maybe just infection on one of the cichlids mouths.i can treat it as thats whats cause my rays.i truely beleive this is some sort of killer fungus or bacteria what can i do .i will be needing to treat like 400 gallons of water

Prazi is for specific parasites,( tape worms and gill flukes).
If you have columnaris you have a problem as most meds recommended for that are not ray safe.
Sulfas or T.C or nitrofurazone or some other antibiotic may help.
massive daily water changes are necessary
raising temp accelerates the disease..not a good plan.
next time QUARANTINE

what about binox its ray safe and kills fungus and bacteria. i was going to go the mela or pimafix way at one time and was told to use binox instead. its active ingrediant is nitrofurazone. and on the bottle says it treats columnaris

jungle makes it btw

perhaps it will work, there are no guarantees.
melfix and pimafix are a waste of time and money, as said earlier in this thread.
MASSIVE water changes are also very important. Columnaris ( there are 2 distinct types) is usually a result of horrible water conditions and lack of quarantine.
I don't understand why anyone would risk "$20,000" worth of rays by just throwing in fish like that, but lessons learned the hard way usually stick.
:(

oh im sure this is a lesson that will stick. we can burn him later but right now lets stick to getting out of this with as little fatalities as possible.

now also what about lupins thoughts. could it be parasites? if you have a microscope you might want to check that out. also check it out on your dead ray and other fish that have died. we can tell you what meds work for what but we need to find the main problem first.

david also what is the difference between the two types and what signs should he be looking for to tell them apart?
