Wow been following the thread I to had a motoro that had white patches that were unknown. I too could not get a pin pointed diagnosis.and I as well am from Calgary could be a city water issue. The white patches on my ray are not gone but she is very active and eating. Hope everything pans out for u.

That's crazy was it the bottom tank under the cross back in riverfront? I have had her for almost 2 weeks with chiclids in her tank and everything seems ok. But I am watching the tank closely.I have a p14,Leo and a marble payed for I am just waiting for this matter to be figured out. Thx for ur input matt appreciate it.
the final decison on what happened here was a bunch of seperate occurances.But i do realize now what was causing my rays to act funny.My tanks are over stocked.i can do 50%wc daily and i still get small nitrite and ammonia readings.well i use zeolite for the ammonia now thats zero but theirs always a small nirite level.The sevrums that died was due to poor water quality in a uncycled tank and a uv sterilizer that was leaking current .i never medicated anything and they are all fine.The fish that rotted away well those never were in any contact with anything else and had hole in the head problems months before that i never treated.Possible secondary infection just took a bit of stress and they melted away.i hope every body who followed this learned something.
1.rays are not really susceptible to common fish issues
2.never panic and jump to conclusions i think that creates new problems that didnt exsist before.when i added melafix and pimafix and cleaned all my filters out ,that was a act of me panicing.I have been keeping rays for years since 2003 i havent killed any recent and my sucess is keeping it simple.once you start doing weird things your rays do to.And remember rays are different from fish just because a fish is sick doesnt mean the ray will be too!!
their was also a change in city water supply.every winter they switch the water supply over and the ph changes by about 1.2 and i do beleive they start the use of chloramaine instead of chlorine that is mostly used through out the year

my original diagnosis was completely wrong.no bacteria was effecting the rays ever it was me the whole time.my weird actions all had seperate reactions from my rays.now every single fish in my home now is perfectly fine,thats due to stability.keep things stable and simple never do anything out of the ordinary unless you are 100% certian of the problem or you will just create newer problems and think its something else
