I also find it sad this guys fish shop didn't explain to him the risks of keeping dovii - ask him about his tank size etc so you cant flame this poor guy too much.

hence the lfs idiots comment. yes people that are out buying fish should research first. but the bigger part of the problem is that "PROFESSIONALS" that sell the fish to people that dont have a clue. when i went to buy my rtc at aqualand pets plus in des moines iowa. (gotta give credit where credit is due) the guy that runs the shop made sure to tell me that there was a no return policy after the fish hit the 4' mark. so there are some out there that do give a $hit and know what they are talking about. but for the most part they are the problem and the solution, but there's not a whole lot you or me can do about it exept educate anyone we can when the chance arises.

I 100% agree; its just frustrating to know the fkn LFS has possibly given this guys fish a death notice and charged him for it.

But its not their job to educate us, they arent a school. I think the consumer needs to man up and do the research themselves, as long as a fish is properly labeled there should be no reason for mistakes like this to occur. The LFS is there to supply us with what we want not to give seminars. There is plenty of information out there and there is no reason to put the blame on them. Thats my opinion.

Hold on if you apply this to any other business that supplies a product they are expected to provide some detail on the product. Not comparing apples with apples but imagine a whitegoods salesman having no understanding of what his selling.

So you're also saying that in your average aquarium theres 2ish employees - at which their sole job is to operate the till and net/bag up fish.... Either way I highly doubt a customer would want to pull up a chair and learn about fish over a few hours so to compare good advice to a seminar is bolony.

All they needed to of asked was:
1) How bigs the tank?
2) Who else is already in there?

In terms of capitalism its not their job to do anything but sell the goods. We as the consumer need to start taking on some responsibilities instead of letting everyone else do it for us.

Coming from someone that worked the sales end of this discussion......there are two types of customers, 50% love to hear info, 50% find it insulting that you feel you must give them the info. This is a dead end discussion, as there is no pleasing everyone.

I would underline, bold and italic the fact you said 'some responsibility'. If someone clearly knows a fish is as predatory as a dovii at least give the person a heads up.

Either way I agree to disagree - just hope jkennedys' fish are ok!
