Ok so I am getting out of fish. I was thinking about getting a lizard after I get all my debts paid off to my mom and all that jazz. Well here is the deal: I have a 55 gallon standard size. I want a lizard that can live in that for atleast a year if not life. It has to be fairly tame as I don't want to lose my fingers. I can deal with all the misting, feeding, cleaning, ect. I am just looking for ideas so I can start some research. Thanks

day geacko
or anoles (madagascan giant?)
other types of gecko im sure

Hmm there's Chinese Water Dragons they get about 3ft long with their tail taking up ~2/3 of their total length, Bearded Dragons attain ~2ft, Blue Tongue Skinks attain ~20" avg of all species, all of these so far are excellent choices for nice looking, Very docile species. As far as looks go I like the CWD, but look at some pics to see what you like best. There are many other species that other members should soon list.

Anoles are not good lizards to start out with. Most people don't give them the care they need, and they are usually so stressed out when being handled that most of them die early on. They are strictly display animals.

Hardy/Docile Lizards dubbed Beginner Lizards:
- Bearded Dragon
- Leopard Gecko
- Blue-Tongued Skink

Some of those guys are expensive, but worthwile.

However if you do your research, you should be able to handle most lizards' needs. Just tell us what kind of biotope you are looking for.

I loved my BTS when I had it though... every week I would come back from shopping with a treat for him... usually a plum, brussel spourt or a beet. Kinda hard to explain to the cashier you only need one of them though.

ive always liked these guys, but im no lizard expert so please dont flame me if its bad advice! :nilly:

Well I have deffinatly been looking at BTS. Also MHD but I have never seen them available. I would like it to be a desert or "dry-ish" biotope BUT I can really deal with anything. I don't really want a beardie because I have had one before and he was really mean. Scarred me for life lol. I got possibly the only mean beardie I have ever seen but hey it happens. Blue tounge skink would deffinatly be on the top of my list though. Any tips on feeding and such for them?

Hmm that's a veiled chameleon. I'm not positive but I heard that they are quite testy and not the easiest species hold, not only that but Chameleons are definatly more challenging than alot of herps. You also need a screen cage to properly house them. If you really want a chameleon get a panther. they have the best colors, are very hardy for a chameleon, are a little pricey, but they tolerate handling alot better than veilds.
