This summer we'll be moving to florida (god willing). The wiife and I are trying to figure out how to make this happen and not have to sell off the fish and start all over once we're settled in.

The issue is my kids especially my son. Hes had some of these fish since he 1st started walking and talking lol. I just dont see how this is going to work. The issue is the closing dates. We'll basically have to spend a night or two in a hotel because of scheduling the closing of our current house and the new house. Its roughly 10 fish. Pearsei is about 12.5 inches 7 bichirs all between 14 and 18 inches, 6 inch heterospilus and a 13 inch vulture cat.

With our last move its was easy the fish spent 8 or 9 hrs in plastic totes between the 3 hr drive unloading all or crap. This time the drive down will take roughly 15 hrs.

Any ideas guys ?

Battery powered air pumps, prime, enough water in containers for water change(s), hand warmers and you should be fine. Add a simple car charger inverter and you can do whatever you want from there. We’ve had members do cross country road trips for massive catfish that included hotel stays. It’s possible and a fun adventure you can involve the kiddos in.

Unless Rays or massive fish it should be pretty feasible. Keep in mind shipping fish is typically done overnight.

This is what I do on extended stays now. I transported fish from my old pond in giant coolers with sponges and I think I rewired a heater if I remember correctly. I can't remember if I used phase 22 panels I had or the hand warmers.

Honestly id ditch the Dempsey and any common ones except the carpintis.

Wow Frank, really? What city? I used to live in Tampa, and my wife in Winter Haven. We're looking to move back sometime soon hopefully.

SUV or van with as many totes as possible to keep as many fish separate as possible.

I’d definitely invest in a power inverter so you can run sponges filters in all containers.
Since you’ll be moving in the summer heaters won’t be needed. If anything you might want to carry some smaller containers with lids to float ice in to keep temps down when the ac isn’t on. Or sandwich bags would work too. Anything to hold the ice really, if it’s needed.

Another member and i were just texting about this and he suggested the same thing.

An inverter would be able to handle a few small pumps and some heaters ? Im thinking im gonna need to warm the bins being that we'll be in the hotel room but i could use the hotels outlets for that. So dont heat the bins during the drive ?

I can place some bags of bio in each bin and circulate the water with some submersible pumps.

Maybe setting up an arangment with a fish store near your new place to recieve and house the fish for a couple days while you do the move? Then you ship or maybe a LFS where you are now ships them there.

I was thinking of this. Maybe calling some lfs in that area and driving the fish down ahead of time.

Oh yeah all the little grow outs will have to go i have no attachment to them. Im even thinking about letting go of a few polys but dont know where to start the 7 left were dwindled down from 20+. These guys are family favorites or just unique fish.

Yeah bro we are looking in the st johns area. Wife heard its family friendly and the schools are supposed to be the best in the state. Say 45 min from Jacksonville.
Biggest thing is we want to be in an area with kids and young families. My kids are bored out of their minds in DE

Ugh live and learn right

Last time we moved we used bins and it worked out fine. These fish were smaller then, i guess now we have to figure out how many in each bin.

I guess im just feeling overwhelmed. Im imagining the closing being a nightmare, wife complaining about something, the kids acting like savages all while im trying to get the plumbing for the sump put back together IF the movers actually show up with the tank and the rest of our furniture ON TIME.

I'd say just give em to the lfs and move, then go pick them up. I mean, it's a lot more useful to do that than to buy a pump, and do water changes, etc. Also being at the lfs for a couple days would be a lot less stressful for the fish than leaving them exposed to fluctuating ammonia and temp levels.
